REMAIN
SEASON
No Changes to Be Made Personnel of Instistitution. in O atrary to the usual custom there has been no reorganization of the Garfield or High School orchestras at the beginning of the present ohool term. The reason assigned to thi3 was because It was found to be a hindrance to the pupils. With the new, ruling only such sections in the orchestras which aro not strong enough to carry their own parts will there be any chance of adding new members. There Is always a long waiting list for membership in both the Garfield and High School musical bodies. The only change in the high school orchestra was the addition of two more 'cellos and a double bass viol. Two of the new players of the latter body graduated from Garfield and will play In both orchestras until next term. They are required to practice at both the Garfield and High school but instead of playing at the chapel exercises at the high school they must attend the Garfield exercises each Friday "morning. No'credit is given work done at this school but one-half of a credit toward graduation is given for playing in the High School orchestra. There are sixty members in this orchestra and thirty-five at the Garfield. Professor Sloane has charge of both bodies and Miss Elizabeth Sands is assistant director of the Garfield orchestra. At the high school two rehearsals a week are held each an hour in length and at the -Garfield only one is held. COLDS AND CROUP IN CHILDREN. TAKES ERSON SCALP Fighting Hard for Every Advantage, Locals Win Close Game. RICHMOND 24, ANDERSON 23. Fighting hard for every point, the Richmond high school basketball team, by a score of 24 to 23, forced the quintet hailing from Anderson to lower its colors a.t the Y gym before a crowd that packed the gallery and sidelines. The Anderson crowd is a claimant for state basketball honors, having recently defeated the Wlngate five, champs of last season, by a decisive score. Last night's victory gives the local quintet a high rating among state fives. Ball and Hart were the stars for the local team. From the initial toss-up to the final whistle there was no cessation of furious fighting on the part of both sides. Richmond obtained possession of the sphere on the first scrimmage, Hoover and Beisman both having chances at the basket, but failing to make connections. A low pass, Byrum to Hale caused the first score of the game, just one miriute after play had started. McClure, of the visitors, duplicated the trick a minute later, giving the upstate crowd a four point lead. Center Ball then dropped a pretty field which was followed by a free throw, which the former converted into a marker. Anderson, at this point, started a series of brilliant team plays that had the locals guessing for a while, and before the attack could be checked the visitors had piled up a seven point lead. Ball and Hoover came to the rescue with a pair of baskets each that brought the Richmond score up to twelve. The visitors meanwhile sent their total to thirteen before the half ended, the figures remaining the same until the end of the first half. Richmond took the offensive at the beginning of the second half. Ball, Beisman and Hoover soon put the locals in the lead with a succession of successful team plays which terminated in a trio of baskets. Dispute arose over a basket caged by Beisman, the Anderson officials claiming the local man had stepped out of bounds. Referee Hoover allowed the score. Ball and Hart Star. Ball was easily the star in offensive work, trapping five field goals and six foul goals. Hart, guard, repeatedly spoiled almost certain scores for the visitors. For Anderson, McClure, diminutive forward, caused the most trouble for the local five. McClure is , a youngster, weighing no more than 115 poundi-i. Byrum and Jones played ; crood game for the losers. Lineup and summary: Richmond, 24. Anderson, 23. Beisman McClure Forward. Hoover Hale Forward. Ball Veimillian (Capt.) Center. Hart Jones Guard. Management of the Richmond Baseball Club is experiencing no end of trouble in rounding up players. At present there are but two members under contract for the coming season. Manager Kenn y thought at the end of last season that he could round up his entire team with little or no trouble, but it seems that the playing of his different men has called attention to various club owners and bush-league scouts, with the result that, with the coming season but a couple months distant, the local nine has but a fielder and a pitcher on its roster. The latest men to jump are Dahl and Merkle, both men being leading players of last season's Quaker outfit. Both have accepted contracts in the Northern Slates League. Before opening up the season at this city Manager Kenney will take his aspirants to Lexington, Ky for a game to be staged at that place April 12. The following Sunday, the local aggregation meets the fast West Covington team at that, place. On April 26 local ' bugs will have their first opportunity of seeing the local men in real action, when Kenney's crew lines up against Diaper's Middleborough team, which will have its training headquarters in this cit3r.

"Y" FIVE SWAMPS HUDSON'S VETERANS
Despite Desperate Rally Old Men Go Down to Defeat. Y. M. C. A., 44; Hudsons, 29. Although showing symptoms of coming back at times, the veteran Hudson aggregation lost to the Y. M. C. A. basketball team in a hotly contested came at the association gym last night. The Hudsons started with a rush, Allison opening the scoring with a basket from a difficult angle. Jones evened things with a field goal. From this time on the game resolved Into a hand-to-hand struggle, neither team having the advantage. After ten minutes of this strenuous work the wind of the veterans began to fail, the result being that the association quintet had everything its own way during the remainder of the half. Hudsons Rally. The Hudson outfit braced at the beginning of the second half, playing rings around the association five, who seemed to be suffering from over-confidence. At this stage of the contest Allison brought the rooters to their feet with a pair of baskets that were nothing short of marvelous. The "Y" boys finally checked the climbing score. Jones and Duning trapped a few just to keep things interesting. An injury put Jones out at tihs point, but the plucky forward continued playing. The work of the Hudson aggregation improved as the game advanced. Wiechman, who replaced Martin, and Caster who entered the fray, put new life into the ancients, who continued to cut down the lead of the association outfit. Jones and Allison Lead. Jones was the individual pointmaker of the game, with eight field and one foul goal, for a total of seventeen points to his credit. Lanning, laboring under the handicap of having to play against Hampton, the stellar guard, did not show up as well as was expected. Duning, who held down the pivotal point of the association crew, scored five baskets besides playing a good defensive game. The guarding of the "Y" outfit was of usual calibre, Parker, Brunton and Roach proving a trio of guards that caused trouble for the Hudson forwards. Allison easily led the work of the losers with twelve points. Harrington and Hampton were in the game at all times, the former electrifying the spectators with sensational floor work, while the latter broke up many of the association's plays. Martin, Caster and Wiechman played in good form. Line-up and summary: Y. M. C. A. Hudsons. Jones Martin, Caster Forwards. Lanning Allison Forwards. Duning Harrington, Wiechman Center. High School Rooters Celebrate With Vim
High school rooters exhibited more spirit last night than has been seen in this city for many years, when a band of about 350 students, led by a drum corps, paraded streets of the city, to show their appreciation of the efforts of the basketball team to trim the Anderson five. After the game the students formed in single file on Eighth street, the procession being led by two youths carrying a huge red and white Rich mond banner. The drum corps was next in line. Earlham Loses to Expects to Win
Prospects for the Secondary Championship May Be Blighted by Result of Tonight's Contest. . TERRE HAUTE, Ind..' Feb. . 7. Earlham's secondary championship prospects received a bump - at the hands of the State Normal five here last night, when, in one of the fastest basketball contests ever seen ou the local floor, the Quakers . dropped the game to the Teachers by a 24 to 21 count. . The visitors were handicapped by having to play on a strange floor. The game was close . and exciting, throughout, neither team being sure of the game until the final Whistle. The teamwork of the local men was of excellent order, the forwards handling the sphere in good shape. Normal has the best team that has represented the institution in years and is out for state honors, having defeated all 1 secondary teams with the exception of Wabash and Rose Poly. Play Rose Tonight. With desperation, born of last night's defeat, the Earlham team will clash with the Rose Poly outfit here tonight. The result of the game that will either eliminate the Quakers from the secondary race or place them in a position that with the defeat of the Wabash five, will give them an equal standing with the leaders in the race. The Quakers are confident of conping the game. Last season the Terre Haute outfit was beaten in a pair of contests by the Yellow and White and was called in order to give the school yells. The procession then headed east on Main street to the Westcott j hotel, that hostelry being carried by storm. The guests of the hotel were informed in no gentle way of the local victory, after which the victorious ! army head for the Arlington hotel which was carried with no opposition at all. The mob then moved on the Red Light saloon, but were foiled by the owner of the place, who succeeded in locking his doors before the advance guard could obtain a foothold. nerve. naturally and properly.
