DRUGGISTS OCCUPY BUILDINGJ YEARS Dickinson Trust Building At Cambridge Has Only One Use. CAMBRIDGE CITY, Jan. 17. M. L. Bowmaster will open a drug store in the building on East Main street owned by the Dickinson Trust company. Sixty years ago this same room was occupied by C. TT. Raymond, as a drug store. Thirty years ago Mr. Bowmaster and Washington Mauk were partners, after which the former continued the business for seventeen years. Dean House, with his drug store was the last occupant of the building. Murray Taylor is at Lafayette this week, in attendance at the Purdue Short Course. The Ladies' Aid society of the Methodist church met Thursday afternoon at the home of the president, Mrs. Wesley Cary. As is the custom, v hen the birthday of a member rolls around, a departure from the routine program is made by the serving of cream, cake, confections, or other delicacies. This time Mrs. I. N. Davis was the honored member., Mrs. Joseph Weigle is quite sick with an attack of the grip. M. T. Schiedler was in Richmond Friday in attendance at the poultryshow. Visited Priest. Father Shea of Cannelton, until recently of this city spent Thursday and Friday with Father ormon at the St. Elizabeth's Parsonage. Miss Grace Myers spent Thursday in Richmond. Born Thursday into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Jones, a daughter. Weight 8 pounds. Mrs. Alice Crull of Dublin and Mrs. Edgar Huddleston and daughters will depart next week for Columbus, Kan., the former to spend the remainder of the winter with her son, George Boyd, editor of the Columbus Daily Advocate, Mrs. Huddleston and daughters for several weeks with her brothers. Mrs. J. J. Richardson went to Connersville Friday to spend several weeks with an aunt, Mrs. Edward Mathes. Ferd Romer transacted business in Dayton Friday. Mrs. Everett Money is clerking in the Callaway dry goods store during January sale. Mrs. f. N. Falls spent Thursday in Newcastle with her daughter, Mrs. J. W'Hard Ri'mmell, who Is quite sick with the grip. The Rebekah Aid society met Thursafternoon with Mrs. Grace Miller and Mrs. Joe Moore, hostesses with twenty members in attendance. In two weeks the society will go to Richmond where an all-day meeting will be held with Mrs. Joe Bender and Mrs. Alice Guy ton, hostesses. Mrs. Dan Chapman and Mrs. Charles Davis spent Thursday in Indianapolis the guests of their uncle Samuel Davis. An interesting meeting of the Home Economics club was that of yesterday afternoon at which time Mrs. Celia Nichols of Muncie, a professional caterer with many years of experience gave a demonstration in the baking of white cake. She will give a second demonstration in cooking at the meeting next month. HOLLWEG RESIGNS BERLIN, Ger.. Jan! 17. Imperial Chancellor Von Bethmann-IIoll-weg has resigned, according to announcement made this evening by the Vossische Zeitung. Makers club, Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fred Herbst, of Dublin. Mrs. O. E. Stuart gave a talk on Parlimentary Rules and alluded to those which could be used to advantage in the club. Mrs. Sarah Larsh, Mrs. P. H. Wilson, Mrs. J. C. Johnson were on the program, which closed with a number of original nature lyrics by Mrs. Stuart, after which refreshments were served. The next meeting will be that of February twentieth at the home of Mrs. Larsh at which time the husbands and friends of the members will be entertained with a Washington program. To Florida. Huddleston has returned from Pittsburg, O., where he is doing the steamfitting in the large tobacco house of S. B. Coole. TROOPS CRUSH OUT STRIO RAND Miners Lay Down Arms and Seemingly Ready to Begin Work. JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Jan. 17. Further arrests were made today by the authorities who are crushing out strike troubles in South Africa. Representatives of the government said that the situation showed improvement. All was quiet along the Rand and the general situation in the mining district was said to be as satisfactory as could be expected under the circumstances. While a flurry of excitement was caused by reports that some of the : radical labor leaders were plotting j against the government of the Union ! i;th Africa, Premier Botha was notified by members of his cabinet that the political issues in the struggle, particularly syndicalism were considered dead. While the vigorous action of the gov ernment in placing an army in the field and arresting nearly 500 strikers and their leaders has improved the situation, the government is preparing to introduce legislation which will placate the labor unions and make peace permanent. The game was played at four tables. Mrs. Charles Sites, sister of the hostess was a guest. A two-course luncheon was served at the conclusion of the afternoon's amusement. The Simmons sale, west of Dublin, was largely attended. The proceeds were between two and three thousand dollars.
