BEAUTIFY BANKS
THOMPSON SLOGAN
Eyesores Along Whitewater's Yalley Should Be Cover-. - ed, Vines, He Says. In abolishing the ugly spots along the course of the Whitewater river and other unsightly places in the city.
Prof. J. F. Thompson, a member of the Commercial club committee on civic improvement, hopes to make plats which will be useful for school purposes. The problem of beautifying the river banks was placed in Professor Thompson's hands by the committee. Ground along the river in Cleveland Professor Thompson said, was platted and cultivated as gardens. Since the students at the Garfield school, and other schools of the cities will be given work in gardening during the spring months, Mr. Thompson believes ground along the river can be divided among those pupils who have no gardens at their homes. In this way the children would be working for themselves in getting out their school work and also for the city in improving what are now bare, ugly places. This plan Professor Thompson believes is practical and can be worked out in connection with the school course. In addition he would propose that vines and borders be used to improve the appearance of the riverbed. Vines, he said, were often used to cover up eyesores such as are seen along the Whitewater.
