the ice is smooth and glassy in appearance and cracked under the weight of its load, many fearing that the entire mass would break. However, in places where there was no current, the ice had reached a thickness of six inches, but was rough. Works on Boat. Captain Rodgers has not completed his iceboat, but expects to have it on the lake in a short time. He has a gasoline engine ready for installation, and has had the big windpaddles ready for some time. The cars, which are automobile beds, have been set on runners and are ready to connect. Charles Jordan, secretary of the Commercial club, has arranged to take up with the directors of the lake and park company the placing of boards, twelve or fifteen feet long and about a foot wide, af intervals over the lake.

holiday at Morton lake yesterday morning and afternoon. Five boys involuntarily took icy baths near the shore of the lake. None of them apparently suffered ill effects from the dip, but left at once for their homes. The boys were playing around the Wild Rover, which is moored in a small cove, when the ice broke. The ice on the lake was not more than an inch and a half thick, but was flexible and bore the weight of the many skaters. The ice stretch is more than a mile long. In most places

CENTER VI LL.E, Jan. 2. The newly installed electric street lights were
turned on last night as a test and j found to be entirely satisfactory. There are thirty-two two-hundred-can-1 die-power tungsten lights, practically every corner of the city being lighted by them. The work of makinn the wir- j ing has been done by the Richmond j Electric Company, at a cost of from ; JK.OOft to $6,000 and the current is be- i
ing furnished by the T. H. I. & E. traction company. The lights burn steadily and are not affected by passins interurbans. The plant is owned and operated by the city, and has been pushed forward bv council, three of whom. Den Geisler, the president, Mr. Pynes, and Ed. Anderson, retire on Jan. B and have been very anxious to have the work completed during their administration. Sixty days have been required for the nrnri- f instniiiny thp litrhts. but prac
tically all the connections have been made, and tomorrow the commercial current will be turned on. Many persons are having the lights installed in their homes.

Bring Back Its Color and Lustre With Grandma's Sage Tea Recipe. Common garden sage brewed into a heavy tea, with sulphus and alcohol added, will turn gray, streaked and f ?,ded hair beautifully dark and luxuriant; remove every bit of dandruff, stop s-calp itching and falling hair. Mixing the Sage Tea and Sulphur recipe at home, though, is troublesome. An easier way is to get the ready-to-use tonic, costing about 50 cents a large bottle, at drug stores, known as "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Hair Remedy," thus avoiding a lot of muss. While wispy, gray, faded hair is not sinful, we all desire to retain our youthful appearance and attractiveness. By darkening your hair with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur, no one can tell, because it does it so naturally, so evenly. You just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time: by morning all gray hairs have disappeared. After another application or two your hair becomes beautifully dark, glossy, soft and luxuriant and you appear years younger. t Advert! semen t

EAGLES.. OBSERVE DAY
At the Eagles'hall New Year's day was observed in the old-fashioned, hospitable way. Tables were spread early in the morning for an all-day repast, and from 0 o'clock until late at night the rooms were thronged with callers. It is estimated that the greater portion of the lodge's nine hundred members stopped in during the day.
