Mings has been taken to the Miami Valley hospital, Dayton, to receive treatment in an endeavor to prevent the amputation of a leg, which was broken about three months ago when he was caught in a belt at the Star elevator. Ralph Parlette, humorist, will appear in the city opera house, December 23 as the second attraction on an entertainment course arranged by the Eaton Ministerial association. Mrs. Carrie Sands has returned from Dublin, Ind., where she enjoyed an extended visit with relatives. Mrs. Thomas Brooge of Chicago, is here to spend the holiday season with her mother, Mrs. S. A. Rossman. Mr. Brooke will join her here in a few days. Mrs. Chalmer Ross has gone to St. Augustine, Fla., for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Oldlather. Judge A. C. Risinger will hold court next week in Troy. Judge Walter Jones, o that city, will be here to hear the Curry will case. The residence of Mrs. Stella Shaw, North Barron street, has been purchased by Dr. H. Z. Silver. Mr. and Mrs. II. J. Poffenberger will go to St. Augustine, Fla., early in the new year to visit Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Oldfather and family. Mrs.' W. L. Reid of Chicago, is here for a visit with hr sister, Mrs. John M. Schell. Mr. Reid will join her here this week and remain during the holiday season. .About twenty Eatonians were in Richmond Tuesday evening to hear Helen Keller.
Keeping Boy on Farm.
GREENSFORK, Ind.. Dec. 19. The
farmers' institute held in the Friends' church yesterday was attended by a small crowd in the morning, but the evening session was attended by a larger number. Music was furnished by the Greensfork orchestra. Avis Gilmore of Greensfork and Miss Martin of Williamsburg gave interesting readings. The lecture of Mrs. Elizabeth Stanley was much appreciated. Prof. R. c. Bowton left today for his home in Sheldon, 111., where he -will spend the holidays. After an absence of several years, Forrest Jones returned home Monday. The high school closed at noon today for a two weeks' vacation. Mrs. Anna Russell is spending this week with Mrs. Oliver Cook. Loren Bradway has removed to Indianapolis.

EATON, O., Dec. 19 Because of an outbreak of diphtheria in Jackson township the centralized high school at Campbellstown has been closed. The cases have developed in the families of four, well-known men in that locality, but the disease is in mild form. Health authorities, however are determined that a spread of the malady shall not come and have exercised the rigid quarantine regulations. At Lewisburg one pupil fell victim of the disease and died within a few days.
Bowlers who have been playing at the City alleys are anxious to- arrange a series of games between a picked team of that league and another to be selected from the best players from the Y. M. C. A. alleys. Officers of

BOSTON, Mass., Dec. 19 Boston awakened today to the biggest upset ever known in a city campaign in the announcement of Mayor Fitzgerald that he had withdrawn from the race for mayor because of ill health. The mayor's withdrawal came as a bombshell, not only to the thousands of his supporters, but also to rival candidates and their followers. With the mayor suddenly dropped out, the entire city campaign is tipped upside down. Expressions of keen regret were heard from persons in every walk of life regarding the mayor's withdrawal.

and Gun club turkey shoot, which will be held at the club's grounds, east of ue city, December 23. The time of shooting has been changed to 11:30 o'clock because of the large number of entries. j Amateurs will be allowed to en- i ter. Persons from almost every town ' in the county, and from Dayton, Hamilton, Springfield and Indianapolis, and other cities as well as members ' of the Ricnmond club, will participate. Erwin Hunt broke a finger on his left hand while playing basketball. Mrs. Asbury Woods, who has been 111 with typhoid fever, is improving. Dick Haxton, Mrs. Ella Charles, Mrs. Ella Lamb, Misses Ida Lamb, Lucinda Haxton and Louise Smith were in Richmond Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cain, Mrs. G. W. Martin and Miss Ella Cain were in Richmond Tuesday night to hear Helen Keller. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Petro of Modoc were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Erman Swain Wednesday.
