Richmondites just at this time of

the year may be divided into two j classes those who are blessing Christ-1 mas and those who are cursing the ; traditional date of the Messiah's birth, j

In the first class come the poor, who profit by charity, the employes whose bosses or fellow employes are liberal with Christmas donations, and the children of almost every fireside. In the latter class are those whom foolish custom forces to give up a month's savings in graft of the Christmas variety the employes who must make a present to their employer, the employes who must "cough up" for employes of lesser grade, and the tens of thousands of persons Just making a living according to their standards, who must appease the washerwoman, the hall by, the elevator boy, the janitor, and a host of other expectant ones. Many painful family situations arise where rich relatives "generously" lavish gifts on poorer relatives who then

mofct painfully feel the ignominy ofj

their poverty unless they are posfssed of unusual fortitude and good sense. What Will Boss Give?

Some institutions have the peculiar custom of giving big Christmas presents to their employes that the concerns become to a certain extent mutual enterprises. The telephone girl and the stenographer, too, will regain her good complexion earlier in the spring she will not have such a mountain of fivepound boxes of candy as usual. Many persons are so heartily In smypathy with the spug movement that they can scarcely speak of it

FREAK BALL PLAY TOLD IN MAGAZINE

The December issue of the Baseball ' Magazine publishes a story written by Herbert Eiler, of the sporting department of the Palladium of a play which j is considered the greatest freak play ; in the history of the national game. ; It occurred in the "nineties" at Mun- j cie, Ind. The story centers largely j around Jot Coar, of New Lisbon, the ! Muncie twirler, who pitched the re-' markable inning in which three trippies, one double and two singles were made off his deliveries and not a run was scored. j The analysis of the inning's play is j

as follows: The first two men at bat trippled but were caught going home. The third batter repeated the stunt, stopping on third sack. The next man bunted down the third base line and took second as the third baseman failed to field the ball thinking It would roll out of bounds. The fifth batter repeated the bunt. The next man hit a grounder between first and second which took a bad bounce and hit the runner retiring the side. The last batter was credited with a hit by the scorers.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 Following the receipt by Illinois members of the house of telegrams from heads of the labor movement in that state urging an immediate Investigation of the Colorado coal strike and the Michigan copper strike, the majority members of the rules committee today held a conference on the Colorado situation. It is rumored that strong hints of the need for action had come also from cabinet sources.

Mrs. Gardner Tells How to Restore One's Strength. So many people are asking how to recover their strength after severe sickness that we are publishing this Information for their benefit. After grippe, pleurisy, pneumonia or

any Illness what you need is new strength and better blood. The most certain way to get this is by taking Vlnol, our delicious cod liver and Iron preparation. Mrs. M. T. Gardner, Chicago, 111., says: "After a very serious operation I was a total invalid for nearly a year and a convalescent for months thereafter, I gave the remedies of a number of eminent specialists a thorough trial, but without deriving the slightest benefit. Vinol was recommended. Without the least faith In the merits of the medicine, I took It faithfully, and it seemed to bring back the old color to my cheeks and the elasticity to my step which I had despaired of ever recovering. I can say, conscientiously, that for nervous, run-down people, Vlnol is an excellent remedy." Try a bottle of Vlnol. Your money will be returned if It does not restore your vitality and strength. Did you ever stop to think what a piano means to every home, and the happiness it brings to every member of the family only those that have one know its real worth. What Stands Between You and the Music of the Masters? It is your inability to plaj their compositions, which is the bar that separates you from the best? We will admit there is difference between "Schumann's Concerta in A Minor" and "Too Much Mustard," but did It ever occur to you that THE STARR PLAYER PIANO removes every barrier of technical inability and gives you access to all the music of all time? With one of these players at your commond the one is no more difficult than the other, and with the individual interpretation which the Starr makes possible, you can produce the grandeur of one or the ragtime swing of the other with equal success.
