THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN -TELEGRAM. TUESDAY, DEC. 16, 1913 ! LITTLE SMITH SOY SJCiAL WORK AIDS year3. He declared medicine has advanced more in the past fifty years than it did two thousand years prior. A comparison 6t the advance of medi-l cine with advances made by other sciences was used in his talk as one of his examples. Make Rapid Strides. "The Marconi rays and the X-rays were developed from the idea of the Crooks tubes, which were used as playthings years ago," he said. "The treatment of diseases through advanced methods has taken as rapid strides, and medical men have found that because a man's stomach is sick, it is not necessarily because that organ is ailing. The sickness might be from eye strain or bad liver conditions, or from excessive drinking. "Scientific diagnosis has also bern greatly developed. He neatment of disease is not confined to the part that is sick, but the whole man is taken into consideration." morniEg. The bo-iy will be taken to New Madison, Ohio, for burial at 9:35 o'clock. Explanation of social service work in Indianapolis, and the relation of a patient's environment, family, home or business affairs to the ailment for which he is seeking treatment, was brought out in a lecture on "The Spiritual Side of Medicine," by Or. Charles I. Emerson, dean of the Indiana Medical college, before one hundred members of the Men's club of the First Presbyterian church last night. In thought, Dr. Emersion showed that drugs play a minor part in the curing of many sicknesses. Dr. Emerson brought out the idea by giving a number of illustrations and closing with a complete explanation of the social service work in which he takes a leading part in Indianapolis. The social service is called on in cases where medicine fails to bring about the desired effect, and it is often the case of the reformation of another member of the family to i nrc the patient, or the ministering of good food or clothing. lie showed the advance made by medicine within the last twenty-five GLASS OF SALTS IF YOUR KIDNEYS HURT Eat less meat if you feel Eackachy or have Bladder trouble Salts fine for Kidneys.
