MEXICO CITY, Dec. 15 Adherents of Gen. Huerta today declared he was more firmly intrenched In power than ever as a result of the Federal victory at Tampico. Gen. Blanco has also received an official report that Torreon has been taken from the rebels. Gov. ernment officials are boasting that within a few months the revolution will be crushed, as the Federal troops, will now take the initiative throughout the republic. Reliable private reports show, however, that both Monterey and Saltillo are infested by rebels and their fall is expected. The Constitutionalist troops have been attacking Monterey day and night for a week. More than 200 have been killed there since Dec. 6. The attacking rebels are receiving supplies from Matanioras but the Federal garrison is unable to get ammunition and food supplies are running low. Demands for help received here from Monterey are disregarded as the capital garrison cannot bo further weakened.

VILLA SLAYS CAPTIVES.
Rebel Leader Wages Relentless Warfare Against Federals.
EL PASO, Tex., Dec. 15. Reports here today that Gen. Francisco Villa, bandit leader of the Constitutionalists has arrested a number of wealthy German residents of Chihuahua and is holding them for ransom. This report is unconfirmed officially, as is also one that Villa has executed Louis Terranzas Jr. whom he seized at the British consulate in Chihuahua. Stories told by refugees who arrived here today show that Villa is conducting a relentless warfare against both old and young whom he regards as Ills foes. He ordered the execution of a young Italian boy who was arrested as he was fleeing frolic Chihuahua, but the lad was saved f Consul Camelin, who warned Villa-that international complications would follow the death of any foreigners.

ALTHOUGH IN JAIL " BURTS WILL MARRY
Confessed Burglar Says Wedding Will Take Place Before Trial.
FLORENCE SCHENCK. Lying at the point of death in a sanitarium in New York, Florence Schenck, who, following her alleged desertion by Charles H. Wilson, stable manager for A. C. Vanderbilt, became a notorius figure in the gay life of Paris and London, has wired to her father in Norfolk, Va., asking him to come to her and grant forgiveness for the wild life she has led, and which she so deeply regrets when it is too late. The life of this girl is a powerful sermon to all young girls who grow tired of the humdrum existence of
home life. A few short years ago she j was a beauty, whose face, figure and j charm caused her to be idolized by j the men-about-town of London, New I
York and Paris, whose admiration is the worst curse that can possibly befall a woman. From a reigning queen of gaiety, this girl dropped steadily to the fate that few of her kind escape. Racked by pain and remorse, this ghastly remnant of what was once a beautiful woman, has sent out a message to the world from what seems certain to be her deathbed. She says, "Girls, stay at home with your parents. They are your only friends. Home is heaven, and the gay life is a veritable hell."

BEESON NOT AFTER THE INFIRMARY JOB Denies Report Which Was Generally Circulated in the City Saturday
Robert Beeson, who retires from the board of comity commissioners De
cember 31, today emphatically denied the report that he had withdrawn his candidacy for county highway superintendent, and was a candidate for the appointment as superintendent of the county infirmary. This report was generally circulated in Richmond, and was accepted as the truth by those who heard it. "Any one who claims to be a friend of mine and who circulates such reports is undeserving of the name of friend." said Beeson. " I do not want the office, and would not have it." Attorney Wilfred Jesup has informed the board members that they would have no right to appoint Bteson infirmary superintendent, if they were bo disposed, because he is a relative of another board member. Barney Linderman. The law, however, would not prevent his appointment as highway superintendent. Through a typographical error it was announced in the Palladium Saturday that Beeson was a brother-in-law of Newton Brumfleld, superintendent of the infirmary. The men are not related.
