CENTERVILLE, Ind., Dec. 12- The M. E. church will give a cantata during the holidays. Mrs. John McCown has been ill several days. Columbus Jackson of Palestine, has been visiting relatives here. Mrs. Irene Walker spent the first of the week with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Land, at Richmond. Mrs. William DeMoss entertained Miss Florence Starr of Hagerstown, and Miss Sara Roberts of Milton, Friday. Mrs. Porter Pike went to Marion Thursday to attend the poultry show. Mrs. Pike has several pens of chickens entered in the exhibit. Misses Louise Means and Norene Means went to Indianapolis Wednesday for a visit with relatives. Mrs. Alice Crull of Dublin visited friends and relatives here Wednesday. The infant son of Mrs. Anna Nolan is seriously ill at the home of its grandmother, Mrs. Seymour. Mrs. Addie Chessman of Richmond were guests of relatives here Wednesday.

The date has ben set as January 15, this action having been taken following the assurance that this particular time would best suit the convenience of Governor Cox. In addition to the state's chief executive, other notables who will be present are Attorney-General Hogan, Congressman Gard and Probate Judge R. W. Baggott, of Dayton. Following the plan of last year, party lines wil be broken down and members of the county's several political bodies will be admitted. The committee having charge of the affair hope to accommodate three hundred persons. Gets Highest Grade. C. C. Stump, a prominent Gasper township school teacher, has been recommended for appointment as carrier on Route No. 9 out of the Eaton postofflce. Stump received the highest grade of any applicant who took the examination held recently to determine eligibles. The vacancy on the route was caused by the death of Emil Cox. To Hold Examination. A civil service examination will be held January 10 for the selection of city mail carriers. Miss Elizabeth Fouts, clerk in the local postoffice, will conduct the test. Free mail delivery in Eaton was established recently in an experimental form for a period of six months. Citizens hope to have the office receipts show an amount warranting the establishment of permanent service at the end of that time. At present but two carriers are making deliveries.
