Before the organization work now

being conducted by T. II. Flynn of the American Federation of Labor is completed in this city, at least one thousand common laborers without trades, will be formed into a close organization, according, to a statement Inade today by Mr. Flynn. But two shop meetings have been held, and while they were In a way successful, it is doubtful if more will be attempted, as those in charge of the organization believe unionism can be strengthened better in Richmond by other means. The work will be carried on in the future by personal effort on the part of members of labor unions. Meetings are being held every night at Labor hall, where men belonging to unorganized trades are brought together and shown the benefits to be derived from unionism. No Increase Demand. No immediate attempt will be made bv the newlv formed organizations to

Organizer Flynn. Each organization, as soon as it is formed will be directed to give its attention to strengthening itself rather than seeking an increase of wages. 'If there are any labor troubles resulting from the work now being done in Richmond, it will come because some one is discriminating against union labor, and not because the union men are seeking increases in their wages," said Mr. Flynn today. Since coming to Richmond Flynn has been made the arbiter of many

troubles that have come up

unions. In one case ed membership in a

said to be afflicted with tuberculosis, lie applied for membership, with out participating in the benefits of the organization. He was refused a card even on these terms. He took up the matter with Organizer Flynn who at once called upon the otlicers of the union and instructed them to grant him membership. Chinese laundrymen apparently are soon to feel the influence of the growth of unionism sentiment that is now sweeping over the city. Although no special effort has been made to organize the laundries of this city, all but one at this time are sure of lining up for organization, it is said. Blow to Washee Man. When the attention of labor leaders is turned to the laundries, it will be

but a short time, they say, until all j of them will employ nothing but union labor. Then with the increased number of union men in the city, many of whom are now taking their laundry to the Chinese, going to the union laundries, the business of the Orientials will be deal a heavy blow. Considerable interest is manifested in the action that will be taken by the street car men's union regarding the sending of a delegation of local employes of the T. H., I & E. Traction company to Indianapolis to discuss the question pf a raise in pay with Superintendent Jefferies. Mr. Jefferies said some time ago that he would receive a Richmond delegation within thirty days, to go over the matter with them. Twentyfive days have now elapsed, and no mover has been made to name a committee. The non-union men seem to know nothing about what is being contemplated by the union men, and the union men refuse to say what they intend to do. It is known, however, that the union men will demand a majority of the delegation, should one be sent. "I don't care if they get the whole shooting match.' said Superintendent Gordon today. "The more the merrier."

The last remnants of the original 1G0 acre entry made by Thomas Roberts, April 10, 1812, passed out of the hands of the Roberts descendants recently when J. M. Seaney purchased the homestead which is located at the corner of South Thirteenth and A streets. No consideration was named. The property was purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strader. Mrs. Strader is a daughter of Eli Roberts, who was a great-great grandson of the original settler.

BUSINESS INTERESTS FIGHT U, POLICY Columbian Note to Mexico Is Interpreted As Anti-Wilson.

FILE HARDING WILL IN PROBATE COURT

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4. State department officials believe that an anti-American campaign is being conducted by great commercial interests whose heads are not allied in any way with the commercial interests of the United States. This opinion was expressed today as the result of a note which the Colombian government is reported to have sent to the Mexican congress.

Mrs. Julia Harding, wife of Pleasant i S. Harding, who died recently, is nam- i ed the heir to all real and personal t property, in a will filed with the coun- j

ty clerk. After her death, the property is to revert to the son, Walter Johnson Pleasants. Mrs. Pleasants is named executrix. The Weslevan Methodist church is

! to receive $5. The daughter, Mrs. j Ada Thornton, of Raleign, North Caroi lina, is the benefactress of $30. It is believed the value of his es

tate is about $1,000 including real anu personal property.

The average man has about all he can do to get ahead without bucking the setbacks to mind and body from Coffee Drinking Coffee isn't a food. Anything not a food which is taken into the system makes the eliminative processes work overtime to throw it off. Often the unprofitable thing, when taken regularly, accumulates faster than it can be eliminated, and becomes a destroyer. Besides, coffee contains caffeine, a subtle, poisonous drug about 212 grains to the cup. It is well known that caffeine frequently causes heart trouble, nervousness, sleeplessness and biliousness serious handicaps to progress and comfort. If something is hindering your efforts, try the simple test of leaving off coffee ten days and using Postum. If after a few days you begin to feel better sleep well, nerve steady up and brain gets clear, you will know how to avoid that kind of trouble. Postum, made only of prime wheat and a small per cent, of New Orleans molasses, is a pure food-drink wholesome, nourishing and delicious. It is absolutely free from caffeine or any other drug. Postum now comes in two forms. Regular Postum must be well boiled to bring out its delightful flavour and food value. Instant Postum (the new form) is a soluble powder. A teaspoonful stirred in a cup of hot water makes a delicious beverage instantly. Add sugar and cream to taste.
