DEPOSITED IN Total Deposits Made Saturday Amount to More Than $65,696. Work of checking up the receipts tor taxes at the office of the county treasurer is almost completed and the office opened again today for busiaess. Total deposits made Saturday lor last week were $65,696.79. The funds were distributed as follows: First National, $21,403.40; Union National, $5,238.06; Dickinson Trust :ompany. $12,046.32; Second National, 127,009.01. The bank lists have been completed tnd the total amount paid into the rounty banks for taxes was $52,652.77. This money is received from the banks where taxpayers have deposits tnd wish the amount of their taxes deluded from them instead of coming to this city to pay. The following amounts were received frof the banks in the county: Farmers Bank, Milton, $4,428.95; Citizens' State Bank Hagerstown, $2,028.69; Fountain Bank, Fountain City, $4,082.76; First National Bank, Hagerstown, $5,232.46; First National Bank, Greensiork, $3,573.99; First National Bank, Williamsburg, $3,984.61; Centerville State Bank, $5,040.47; Northern Wayne Bank, Economy, $3,411.15; Wayne National Bank Cambridge City, $10,821.32; First National Bank, Cambridge City, $8,253.13; First National Bank, Dublin, M.795.24. eart to Heart Talks By CHARLES N. Too many trains derailed by rails unable to stand the terrible pressure of steel trains passing over them at unsafe speed too many smashed cars in the ditch! Nowadays men talk of signals and block systems and improved methods of building; cars and locomotives rather than of sending trains at terrific baste around carves and on the long level stretches of track. The death rate is still too high, but men versed in such matters believe it will go down. The margin of security Is widening with the precautions being taken to insure safety on the rail. Signs are not wanting that along the road of life the same thing is happening. Not many men speak as did the young millionaire the other day when be said: "When I want to get anywhere I want to get there in a hurry. If the express trains are not fast enough-1 order specials. I want my automobile to be the fastest one that the builder can supply. That's the way to live speed up and get there!" While you skim along the road and make the other fellow take your dust speed is delectable. And it is pleasant to "get there," to be the first on the scene. But suppose you never get there? Suppose your train of life is derailed and wrecked and you are thrown, dying or dead, into a ditch? Suppose the wheel of your hundred horsepower ear skids and you are thrown out against a telegraph pole, to have your name added to the list of victims of speed? Slow up a bit in the ride of life. The goal is not so distant that you must burn up the road to get there. See the scenery of life as you pass through it. If you keep your nose on tbe steering wheel you miss the pleasant hills that lie between you and the horizon. You cannot live your life as you should if you ar? too much intent on getting through with it as fast as possible. Pause to admire the flowers of life that bloom along the way.
