7. P. i4 Notes
BY T. C. II.
The smoker given in the club rooms Saturday evening, Oct. 25, was the Boost elaborate affair ever given in th T. P. A. headquarters. The lunch was served to the members seated at tables In the billiard room. The room w beautifully decorated In Halloween colors and the tables carried several vases filled with choice cut flowr. Every member present expressed bla appreciation of the evening's entertainment and was loud in his praise for the committee having the affair in Charge. The post expected to make the Winter season of 1913-14 full of social events and the officers are looking torward to a social season of much activity. The campaign for funds to finance the 1914 T. P. A. state convention was Inaugurated at the smoker and the success attained was greater than any member of the executive committee had anticipated. The hearty and liberal response of the members bespeaks a lively Interest in the coming convention and promises to give to the visiting T. P. A.'s a welcome that they will never forget. Richmond and Post C must see to it that the reputation the city has for entertaining visitors is fully sustained. Rcks Bowman has accepted a position with Lunn & Sweet Shoe Co., of Auburn, Me. Ross has been assigned to territory in Kentucky, 'West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware which will necessitate his absence from Richmond a great portion of the time. Harry Thomas was in the city during the past week called here on ac- . count of the serious sickness of his father. Mr. Thomas is making his home in Albion, Ind.
INVESTIGATE ROAD
County Board Hears Many Complaints.
An investigation of conditions on the National road east has been made by the commissioners, wao believe the contractors, making the road, are not obeying the rules regarding danger signals. There are thirty-five families
I on the road who cannot come to Richmond for supplies, and as a result have been unable to get in winter supI plies. 1 The car tracks are being moved to ; the center of the road from the south ! side. A large ditch in the middle of ! the road with earth piled on both sides , completely shuts off traffic. It is believed that a year's work ; wnll be required before the road will j be made entirely passable. The road j will be made of water bound macad- ! am.

The finance committee of the 1914 convention has been doing a great amount of hard work making plans to finance the coming state meeting. One of the unique features of their work Is the clock which has been prepared by Mr. Bates. This clock shows a dial like a watch with minute hands and second hands. Each space of the second hand represents, one hundred dollars while each space of the minute hand is five dollars. As tho money comes in the clock hands are moved up accord his; to the amounts received. Mr. Bates was kept very busy the night of the smoker turning the hands, and at the cud of the even'ne's entertainment the clock reghsttrcd SSOO.SO. Today, after week's work, the clock shows $.(H'0.00 and the canvas has not begun, 'i' r chick is hanging; in the parlors of elm club rooms and will ramsin there until the convention date The executive committee has adopt-, ed a slogan to be need by the post in : boosting the convention and it bids fair to become a Nurture with Post C. The slogan is: "Richmond Wants You." This slogan will be used by the traveling man as he goes over the country and will be tho means of adTertlslng the city. It will also appear upon the stationery of the post that will be sent broadcast. "Richmond , "Wants You" is full of meaning Rich- ; mond wants the visitors to come to see ! the beautiful city. She wants the busine&s man seeking a good location to 1 come within her gates. She wants the factory man who is trying to find a home where labor troubles are few to come within her borders. She wants tJje capitalist, the farmer, the laborer to come and locate in Richmond. In a j word Richmond wants every thing i worth while to come here where will ; be found satisfactory conditions, educationally, socially and financially
Mr. Campbell made a trip to gerstown and vicinity today. In a recent fire drill given at
school every student was out of the building in a minute and ten seconds. It is the endeavor of the institution to make this exit in still less time and with less confusion, however, the students conducted themselves in a creditable manner. This wa test week, and the reports show that the grades made are better than expected. Ruth Study, "who formerly attended Brown's Business College at Danville, Illinois, is now attending here. A long letter in the form of stenotype notes was received this week from Lova Mansfield of San Diego, California, telling of some very exciting experiences while on her way to that city. Miss Bertha Kinsinger passed the stentotype test this week and has been awarded her certificate of effi
ciency. She has accepted a position j
m the ottice ot the Stentotype Co., at Indianapolis, at a very handsome salary.
