Results in Cambridge City Balloting Expected to Be Close. FILL THREE OFFICES Three Candidates Are Seeking the Office of Town Marshal. CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind., Oct. Much interest centers In the coming election of corporation officials, which will occur next Tuesday. The following are the candidates for the various offices: Councilmen, first ward, F. C. Mosbaugh; second ward, Oscar Chase and C. W. Smith; third ward, Joseph W. Moore and John E. Gray. Will Austel and E. D. Filby are hold-over trustees. Richard Ressler will succeed himself as treasurer, and Felix , W. Dirk, as clerk. M. L. Young, Carl Chapman and Patrick Sommers are candidates for marshal. A Penny supper will be served by the Third section of the Social Union, next Wednesday evening in the basement of the Methodist churchy each dish on the menu, selling at a penny each. Sowers will spend Sunday at Straughns with her brother, Will Clayton. Mrs. Frank Martin is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Myers, of Dublin. Miss Loretta Brown and Mrs. Mattie Schuck, of New Trenton, are the guests of Miss Brown's sister, Mrs. Glen Cooley. Mrs. Schuck will return home Monday, Miss Brown remaining for a visit of several weeks. Miss Agnes Pusinelli went to Indianapolis today to spend a few days with the Sisters of Providence, at the John's Academy. She will also attend the "Feast of All Saints," Saturday. Visits In Fountain City. Mrs. Albert Durham has returned after a visit with relatives at Fountain City. Mrs. Rose Barrett, of Knightstown, is spending several days in this city the guest of her brother, Raymond Ferguson and family. The Whitewater Presbytery will meet In the Presbyterian church of this city, next Monday afternoon at one o'clock. The special business of the meeting will be the severance of the pastoral relations existing between the Rev. T.. C. McNary and the Second Presbyterian church, of Richmond, and Rev. T. W. Maguire and the Presbyterian church at Newcastle. 80 Years Old. Mrs. James McCurdy is dead at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Ellebarger, of Dublin. Her husband died three years ago. The funeral was held this afternoon in the Methodist church, of which she was for many years a member. Rev. Holman and the Rev. Holman and Rev. Seelig had charge of the service. Halloween Party. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tague, on North Front street, was the scene of a merry Halloween social Wednesday evening, given by the Christian Endeavor of the Christian church. Branches of bright colored leaves, fodder, pumpkins and candles trimmed the room. Each young man was required to purchase a necktie, finding his partner to supper by a search for the young lady wearing an apron, corresponding to the tie. Mrs. Felix Johnson was awarded a dish of Ice cream for the best mask that of bashful girl. Pie. ice cream, pop corn crispit and coffee were served. The sum of ten dollars was realized from the entertainment. Mrs. Ell Brewer and Mrs. Harry Turner will go to Muncie, Saturday, November eighth, to attend the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. William George. er Dies At Home After a I Short Illness. FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind., Oct 31. The death, after only a short illness of Michael Nocton, 59, a well known farmer, residing east of this place, occurred about 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. Me was taken bedfast Monday. In a short time his condition was critical. Because of the suddenness of the attack a post-mortem examination was held and the cause of his death was found to be gallstones. He had suffered attacks of the same nature previously. Mr. Nocton was well known over the county. He is survived by a widow, one son, John Nocton, of Richmond, and two daughters, Mrs. Emma Ridge, of Richmond, and Mrs. John Wolf, of near New Paris. The funeral service will be conducted from St. Andrew's church, Richmond, at 10 o'clock Friday morning, and interment at St. Mary's' cemetery. MRS. THURSTON DEAD. Well Known Woman Had Been III For Some Time. FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind., Oct. 31 Mrs. L,. C. Thurston, fi2, died at her home about 6 o'clock Thursday morning. Her flemine was due to uremic poisoning, her illness dating from the time of the death of her son, Dr. Thurston, following an operation for appendicitis last summer. She is survived by five daughters and four sons, besides the husband and many grandchildren. Thr children are Mrs. Chris Williams, of Lynn, Mrs. Mont Moore, of RichmoTvi, Mrs. Claude Wickersham ai 'rs. Clarence Hinehaw, of Webste- rs. George Meyers, Ivan and Do. Thurston, of near this place, Theodore Thurston, of near New Paris, and Jesse Thurston, of Lynn. The funeral will take place from the Christian church Saturday afternoon, interment in Willow Grove oemetery. MILTON Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Indianapolis is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. L. A. Bragg and other relatives. Mrs. Benton Wagner is ill. The W. C. T. Templin while getting dinner was seized with a .fainting spell and fell. She fell backward, thus missing the hot stove. Jacob Schneider, living south of Milton near Beeson's station will sell his personal property at auction, November 12. The ladies of the church at Harrisburg will serve free lunch. Watson Faucett and Clark Faucett were at Indianapolis last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt of Shelbyville are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clinton case. Pleasant Surprise. Mrs. Clark Faucett arranged a surprise on her husband Wednesday evening in the way of a masquerade party. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bertsch, Paul Bertsch and sister Miss Ada, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Howard, north of Cambridge City, Watson Faucett, Miss Lulu Faucett, Homer Bertsch. Misses Laura, and Ida Bertsch and Mabel Hartman, and Jesse and William Huddleston and Andrew Kerber. The evening was spent in contests and games after the masks had been removed. On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Campbell were surprised by a number of friends who came to remind them of their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. Walter Clark of Wabash, Ind., is moving to Syracuse, N. Y., having taken a position as traveling salesman with a new conpany. His mother, Mrs. Mr.rtha A- Clark, returned Thursday from a visit at Wabash. Mr. and Mrs. Olive Spencpr of Bethel spent Tuesday with Mrs: Mary M. Young. Henry Miller and Douglas Lawder each have erected a wireless telegTaph station at their homes and are becoming proficient in the code. Emmett Harris is also preparing to erect a station. A much needed improvement is being made at Brinley Station on the L. & N. division north of here, in the way of a telegraph tower. The building will not be completed for several weeks. Miss Mary Wolf was pleasantly surprised Wednesday by a number of relatives, the occasion being her birthday anniversary. A big basket of dinner accompanied each family and was served at noon. Those present were Messrs. and Mesdames John H. Noakes and son, John McWhWney, Carl Morris and family, John Purviance, Mesdames Ethmer Reid, E. R, Daugherty, Alice F. Dowle,r, Cora McWhinney and Miss Ethel Sheppard. Mr. and Mrs- Wl E. Jones, Miss.. Bernice Horner and G. C. Wolf saw "The Barrier" at Richmond Wednesday evening. L. C. Ashman spent Wednesday in West Manchester. x Mr. and Mrs. Ross Markey have removed from the Stephen Kuth farm to the Maude R. Tyler farm. Mrs. John Wolf received word Wednesday evening of the death of her father, Michael Nocton at Fountain City. The Wolf family has been under scarlet fever quarantine for several weeks, having lost two children from the disease, and Mrs. Wolf has been unable to call upon her father. B. S. Davis spent this week posting school election notices in the various districts assigned to him. Mr. Davis is one of the deputy state supervisors of elections. Several children have symptoms of scarlet fever, but there is only one case, Russel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Miller.
