episcopalians Watch National Convention
Episcopalians have their attention ntered on New York, where more an 200 clergymen and S00 delegates e attending the triennial convention the church in the Cathedral of St. hn, the Divine. The Rev. Mr. Light3urn, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal lurch, thi3 city, Is in attendance. The two houses of the convention, le House of Bishops and the House !f Deputies, convened for organizaon at noon vesterdav. The House of Bishops, which holds 8, sessions behind closed doors, is bmposed of 116 members, but only 105 re present at this convention. This ouse is presided over by the Most lev. Dr. Daniel Sylvester Tuttle, the ighest ranking clergyman of the episcopal church in the United States. Deputies Meet. The House of Deputies, which bears lomewhat the same relation to the "rlouse of Bishops, as does the House f Representatives to the Senate In bur national Congress, is composed of 3lergymen and a like number of laymen. The sessions of this house are presided over by a president, elected from among the clerical members. The president elected at the last session is the Rev. Dr. Randolph McKim, Df Washington. The selection of his Buccessor will be one of the first duties of the Deputies in the present convention. In this connection there are .two prominent candidates in the field, the Rev. William T. Manning of (Trinity, New York, and the Rev. Alexander Mann of Trinity, Boston. So many questions come up before the general convention that three weeks are usually spent in deliberation. It is expected that the heavy pressure of business will this time keep the delegates for an even longer period. One of the questions which will be brought up, and which has already precipitated much discussion in 7976
FASHION FINDS INSPIRATION IN FAR-AWAY LANDS
Majiy new fabrics for dresses and vita auiest the Far East rather than th Futurist or Impressionist ideas. Th style of the gown itself with the omnipresent sash broadly folded and i knotted low over the hip strengthens this effect of Orientalism very pleastntly. Printed or brocaded silks in rather -bold Parisian or Turkish designs when draped loosely in blouse and skirt serve to broaden shoulders, waist and hips . to et the present r&quirements. No. i. 797C offers a picturesque illustration of th broad lines. The plain sash acalnat the f.grure cf the material is " brotwbt out in strong relief and wltl jta soft folds serves to tone down a design that might otherwise be too strtkln. Five and one-half yards of tt inch printed silk or brocaded charut this coupon and inclose 15 cent In stamps or coin. previous conventions, is that of changing the name of the church from the Protestant Episcopal church of the United States of the American Catholic church. This question is one that has given rise to much discussion for many years, and at times the controversy has taken on a heated tone. The Rev. Dr. McKim, who for several conventions has served the president of the House of Deputies, will argue from the floor in favor of the change. This is given s his reason for refusing to be a candidate for re-election to the presidency. Avoid Sedative Cough Medicines. If you want to contribute directly to the occurrence of capillary bronchitis and pneumonia, use cough medicines that contain codine, morphine, heroin and other sedatives when you have a cough or cold. An expectorant like Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is what is needed. That cleans out the culture beds or breeding places for the germs of pneumonia and other germ diseases. That is why pneumonia never results from a cold when Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is used. It has a world wide reputation for its cures. It contains no morphine or other sedative. For sale by all dealers. (Advertisement) CAR STOPS QUICKLY AVERTING ACCIDENT A quick stop by a street car saved R. M. Lacey, 22 North Seventeenth street fro mserious injury Tuesday, when he stopped his automobile in the path of a rapidly approaching street car. The car came to a stop as it hit the automobile. The fender of the machine was bent. No one was injured. i 1 1 7360 7359 meuse is required to copy this dress in size 36. No. 7960 shows one of those tmconventional little coatee blouses in printed silk with quaint Futurist roses scattered over the surface. These are usually worn with a plain skirt In a color that h&rmonlres efTectrvely witn the blouse. The drop shoulder and the V neck heighten the youthful effect of the blouse, and quite a sew design i9 brought out In the peplum. A twopiece skirt with slightly raised waistline and a clever arrangement of tucks on the side to give a bit of drapery completes an attractive " afternoon costume. For the blouse in sise 38 2 yards of S6 inch material will be needed, and for the skirt (No. 79S9) i yards of 36 inch material. Each pattern 15 cents. B,s Name Address ...
