Calvin Cross, a veteran of an Indiana regiment in the civil war. died recently at his home near Blountville, twelve miles north of Hacerstown. leaving an estate of several thousand dollars. The day following the burlal the children, fve sons and two daughters, met at the homestead to begin the division of the property. These were arrange! in seven small heaps. A brother of Calvin Cross, Ephriam Cross, was blindfolded, and as the person selected to assist him placed a ringer on each separate pile in turn, asking. "To whom does this pile go?" Mr. Cross would call out a name. In this way clothing and other property was divided. Then was held what was termed a children's sale, none but the children being present, when the family Bible, family portraits, war and other relics and heirlooms and old photographs cherished by the family were sold to the highest bidder.
