Parents neglect the religious training of the child and expect the Sunday (school to do all the work in a very tbrlef time, according to the Rev. E. G. (Howard, whose sermon was on "The (Test of Sunday School Efficiency." "If the Sunday school is failing, the 'church is failing in one of her most important duties," said the Rev. Mr. (Howard. "The test of Sunday school efficiency Is not the gathering together of numbers. Its success is the work that results In Imparting the truth of the word of God, so that it becomes a part of the child's life. Sunday school success requires that a spirit of worship be put Into the student's heart, with a realization of the reality of sin. "The next step is to show a vision of God's love, and with a realization 'of God's pardon there will come a love jfor the worship of God. Too big a bur!den Is placed on the Sunday school. (Greater influence must come from the home, or the Sunday school will fail." More than 300 attended the Sunday jschool rally at the First English Lutheran church yesterday morning. The (feature of the morning was the address iby udge Boggs, city chairman of Sunday schools. His address was on "Social Loafers," whom he described as those who do good in the community in which they live. "One ought to establish a habit of going to Sunday school," he said. "It Iwill be of wonderful value. The dominating spirit of the age Is service for mankind, and we should strive not only to be of use in our own Sunday 'school, but also be ready to help in any city-wide work." The largest class in the Sunday school was the Olive Branch Bible 'Class, taught by E. M. Haas. The other classes were filled with more than the usual number. Next Sunday will be promotion day, as a graded system of classes is used. Some re-organization of classes will also take place.
"FEAR IS FRUITFUL CAUSE OF FAILURE"
"Fear Is the mother of disease and the most fruitful cause of failure," said Rev. H. L. Haywood in his sermon on "The Life of Peace, Pose and Power. "He who would live the invincible life must have full confidence in the processes and laws of the universe that it Is good to be born, to labor, to suffer and to die. Confidence in one's soul is also essential to him who would overcome the world. The man who lives at second hand, always deferring to others, can never be his own master. But most important of all is confidence in God. If we believe that reason is at the heart of the world, that a will moves behind it adequate to carry it through its long journey in safety, and that a heart of love Is Imminent in all its activities we can vmakeroTjr;; life voyage with peace and joy, fearing nothing."

TALK OF PLANS FOR EPWORTH LEAGUE
Enthusiastic plans for the coming year were discussed at the regular meeting of the Epworth League of the First M. E. church. Miss Freda Seifert, president of the organization, said: "The keynote of our work this year will be 'boost." We intend to develop every department of the work, and as our league is increasing in numbers, so I hope it will increase in interest. If it does we can do great things." Miss Bertha Brown, first vice president, outlined plans for the devotional work. "We hope to get many more to take up the daily Bible study, and It is also the wish of the department to branch out and make a closer relationship with the leagues of other churches. "We must see that the sick and aged are cared for, and that new members receive attention," said Miss Laura Brown. "We can also help the poor and distribute flowers to the Sick."
SAYS MONEY, SPENT FOR LIQUOR WASTED Enough intoxicating liquor is consumed by the American people in a year to fill the Panama canal three times, according to the Rev. J. L. Hutchins, of this city, who spoke before sixty members of the First M. E. Brotherhood. "If this waste were saved and distributed into necessities of life, humanity would be much better," he said. O. Stovall, First Baptist church. Fraternal Greetings Rev. T. C. Graham, First Presbyterian church. "The relation of the Newspaper to the church" Dwight E. Young, Richmond.
