The lives of many passengrrH m the Goodrich steamship Iowa were endangered at & o'clock this merniiiK when the big lake liner was rammed by her sister ship Sheboygan at the mouth of the Chicago river. The Iowa was stove in from her rail to five feet below the water line. The Sheboygan also wrecked her bow, and when she backed away tons of water rushed into the opening In the Iowa's side. Half a dozen tugs living in the river rushed to the aid of the two disabled ships and all the passengers were taken off, many of them half clad or in night, garments. After the passengers and crew of the Iowa had been landed and a part of the cargo carried off, the vessel went to the bottom of the Chicago River with $60,000 worth of cargo still on board. NEXT CHAUTAUQUA FOR MORTON PARK "It is not altogether visionary," said Charles Jordan this morning, "to say that the next Chautauqua will be held at Morton Park, the way work is progressing out there now." Under the direction of Richard Sedgwick, the tract is rapidly taking on a parklike appearance. The springs have been walled, gravel walks built round them, and the trees are being trimmed. The foliage is cut into pyramids, balls, and all kinds of fancy shapes. In places where the underbrush is unusually heavy it has been trimmed out underneath, making small leaf covered bo'vers.
