(Continued from Page One) quarters in those miserable, filthy places. "One of those men told me last night that he had been In this country fourteen months and had made $518, of which amount he had sent $400 home. So he had lived for over a year on $118. "Another fellow told me he had been in this country three years and had saved in that time between $750 and $800, but had, all told, only sent $40 hpme to his wife ana three children." Stricter regulations of immigration is advocated by Mr. Hogan.' He says that it is essential that the greatest encouragement be given to the "back to the farm" movement. What Nation Needs. He pointed out that since the civil war the United States had become an industrial rather than an agricultural nation, and that since that time many new industries had developed, notably the automobile and traction industries. This industrial expansion, he said, had taken people away from the farms and had stimulated immigration because of the great demand for labor. But, he pointed out, the farms were not producing the required amount to feed this great army of industrial workers. The right kind of immigrants, Mr. Hogan said, should be encouraged to bring their families to this country. This would lessen the necessity of importing so many male foreigners annually and would improve the citizenship.
