Gardner did not appear at the court room this morning and his attorney entered a plea of guilty for him. The accident which brought about the suit occurred on the National road west of the city near the boy's home, on May 13th. Paul was playing ball with some other children in the yard of Prof. Elbert Russell when the ball rolled into the road, and not seeing the machine. Young Heironlmus ran after it. The automobile was being driven ' by Gardner at a rapid rate of speed and though every effort was made to M m H I m stop it, the boy was struck and dragged more than thirty feet. Gardner did not stop the machine and left his victim lying in the road and leaving the city immediately without making known his identity. Through the efforts of Chief of Police Gormon, Gardner was located through information furnished by Frank Railsback who was invited by the men to ride into the city with them. Gardner furnished bond of $100 several days ago after affidavits were returned here against him. Speed Laws Violated. As a result of the incident It was urged by the members of the West Side Improvement association that all violators of the speed ordinances and Btatfc, laws be fined. Complaints have been made to the police concerning speeding in various parts of the city. The police have been unable to bring the guilty parties to justice without considerable trouble because of lack of proper equipment. It is expected that the police commissioners will authorize the purchase of an automobile or motorcycles for the department If further violations are made. m Is:
