CURRENCY BILL ON NON-PARTISAN LINES Such Is the Aim of Democratic Leaders and President Wilson.

FATE IN THE BALANCE. . WASHINGTON, May 13. The fu- ; ture fate of the Underwood tariff bill in the senate was in the balance to4y while the Republicans and Demo, rats debated on the Penrose motion ' to Instruct the senate finance commlttee to hold open hearings on the measure.

The clash between the opposing senators was rendered the more interesting because it, waa. calculated to show the real strength of the supporters of

the administration measure. , It was on sugar and wooJUthe prin

dpal schedules in the Underwood bill,

, that the fight will come, and the Dem

ocratic leaders anxiously watched the debate to see how far the defection set

afoot by Senators Ransdell and Thorn

ton, fo Louisiana had influenced the senators from the sugar and wool producing states.

(National News Association) WASHINGTON, May 13. Anadministration currency bill will be the re

sult of numerous conferences which are to be held this week between senate and house members, the president and cabinet officers. Representative Underwood, who has consented to assist in piloting a currency reform measure through the house, said today that the currency bill is in the making, and soon will be whipped into fairly definite shape. It is well understood that the purpose of he president and the senate and house leaders is to present at the outset a bill upon which a practical agreement has been reached and to designate it as the administration bill. Carter Glass, chairman of the house banking and currency committee, goes so far as to desire a non-partisan bill, upon which Republicans, Progressives and Democrats of the new banking and currency committee may agree. He

wants to take the curency question out of politics and to bring in a bill that will have the support of the minority parties as well as the Democrats.

Health and Beauty Advice By Mrs. Mae Martyn

Annette: ft) Sometimes a druggist endeavors to discourage the making of home-remedies because be thinks it interferes with his business. I never suggest the use of anything that Is not sold In first class drug stores. (2) To make kardene spring blood-tonic and liver-remedy get 1 ounce of kardene, mix it with cupful of sugar and add pint of alcohol and 1 pints of hot water. Thin formula makes a full quart of tonic, of which you should take 1 tablespoonful 5 minutes before each meal and before retiring. As an all-around tonic this has no superior. It will restore your lost appetite and tend to strengthen and build you up. It purifies blood and your pimples and ugly blotches will soon disappear.

Virginia: A good "liquid-powder" or face-wash which when on seems a part of the skin is made by dissolving 4 ounces of spurmax in H pint of hot vater or witch hazel and adding 2 ttaspoonfuls of glycerine. This homemade complexlon-beautlfler whitens the skin without the use of powder and is particularly recommended for the use of anyone who has a 6allow, dark or oily. skin.

Constance: To remove dandruff and stop falling hair, apply once a week a quinine hair-tonic, made by dissolving 1 ounce of quinzoin in j pint of alcohol, adding H Pnt of colJ water. Rub into the scalp and hair ith the finger tips until absorbed. This treatment will promote the growth of hair and tnd to make it

luxuriant and glossy. (See answer to Molly.)

Molly: It is not necessary to shampoo the hair oftener than twice a month if you use a shampoo that will thoroughly cleanse the hair and scalp. An inexpensive shampoo that makes the head feel good and helps the hair is made by dissolving a teaspoonful of canthrox in a cupful of hot water. Pour on the hair and rub weU. You will find that this makes a good lather and plenty of it thoroughly cleanses the hair and scalp and relieves irritation and stimulates roots to helpful action. Viola: Yes, healthy eyes are clear and sparkling. If yours are dull, red and Inflamed you need an eye-tonic.

(Adv

Get an ounce of crystos from your druggist and dissolve It in a pint of water. One or two drops In each eye every day is all that Is required. This eye-tonic will not smart or burn and will give relief when the eyes are tired, inflamed, or sore. It strengthens the eyes and will benefit you if you wear glasses.

Laura: Your friend Is right In saying tbat I know a certain wrinkle-remover which can be mRde at home at very little expense. It la & vegetable produc t and is unlike creams containing oils or animal fat as it neither grows hair nor makes ttie flesh loose and flabby. Just dissolve an ounce of almoroin. which you can get from any druggist, in one-half pint cold water and add 2 teaspoonfuls of glycerine. Stir and let stand for one day. To remove wrinkles apply a thck coat of this cream-jelly and leave on over night. This protects the skin and allows all the blood action to be used In constructing new texture. Then wash it out of the pores and massage thoroughly with more of the cream. It makes the skin soft and velvety, while it Is unequaled in reducing large pores

Student: It will be good newi to you to learn that what you eat is now thought to have little to do with cbesity and that if enough exercis is taken, even a fleshy woman may eat what she wants. To half starve oneself means to look haggard and altogether unlovely. Don't drink whiln eating. een water, and don't drink alcoholic beverages at any time. The best flesh-reducer I know of Is parnotis. Get from your druggist an original 4-ounce package of parnotls, take it home and dissolve it In 1 pints hot water. Take one tablespoonfol 3 times a day. before meals.

Olga X.: The disfiguring hairy growth can be permanently banished by using a delatone paste. Get a small original package of delatone and mix enoueh of the powder with water

to cover the objectionable hairs. Let remain 2 or 3 minutes, then remove and wash the skin. This simple treatment dissolves the hairs and leaves the skin free from blemish. Read Mrs. Martyn book, "Beauty." $5. Adv.
