A number of the former pupils of Miss Elizabeth Wheelan gave her a very pleasant surprise Friday evening. In the company were the Misses Alma Scheidler, Katherine Ulrich, Iluth Feemster, Esther Farguson, Hazel Ohmit. Esther Bowden, Ella Stalker and Marguerite Smith. Dr. J. M. Study and daughter, Mrs. May Borden; spent Saturday in Richmond. W. B. Wilison spent Sundoay with relatives In New Lisbon. Mrs. Horace Ellebarger, of Indianapolls is a vlsitar In the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Huddleston, of Mount Auburn. Mrs. Anthony Pusinelli and daughters, the Misses Agnes and Elizabeth were guests of Mr. "and Mrs, Will Dorgan of Harvey's crossing, at - dinner Sunday. Arthur Reece hag returned after a few days spent In Indianapolis. Miss Alice McCaffrey spent Sunday in New Castle, the guest of Miss Louise Millikan. Mrs. Phoebe Johnson, of Madison, Wisconsin, will be the guest this week of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Tones. Mrs. John Groves, of East Cambridge went to New Lisbon Saturday to spend the week with Mr. and Mrs. John Mallory. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sites of New Castle, were guests Sunday of the latter's mother, Mrs. Susie Guyton. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Graver attended a memorial service for the latter's brother-in-law, John Hagner, of NewCastle, at the Chicago church, east of that city, Sunday. Mr. Hagner was drowned in Blue river, almost three weeks ago when he fell into the surging waters which were at flood stage. The rains of the past week put an end to the efforta of the searching parties, but as soon as the weather permits the search will be resnmed and every effort made to locate the remains. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hall of Richmond spent Sunday with G. E. Calloway and family. Everett White of Richmond, was the guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. White. Miss Emma Nicholson spent Sunday with friends in New Castle. Mr. and Mrs. George Hodge of Richmond spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. James VanMenter. A message was received here Saturday advising friends of the death of A. U. Martin at his home In Hill Grove, Ohio. Mr. Martin has been employed as book-keeper with Bertsch & Company of this city. During his Btay here he has made many friends all of whom regret to learn of his death, coming as it did after several weeks of illness. The Rev. J. E. Coffin Bad charge of the services. The Christian church gave a threeact drama entitled "Those Dreadful Twins" Saturday evening in the Hurst opera house. Despite the inclement weather, the Loyal Sons Bible class, under whose auspices the play was given, realized a neat sum for the class treasury. The congregation of the local Methodist church was pleasantly entertained by their pastor, the Rev. William Hollopeter just newly installed into the services of that church. The two excellent sermons which marked the pastor's debut were heard by a large attendance although the weather was disagreeable. Mrs. Celeste Bernheim addressed the ladies of the Methodist church Saturday afternoon on the conversions of her race to the beliefs of Christianity. Mrs. Bernheim is a Jewess and has been working among her own people in Chicago for their conversions. Mrs. Lawrence Ogborn and Miss Gaynelle Hagomun featured in the entertainment by a vocal solo and organ number respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Ennis Kittorman of Centerville spent Sunday in the home of their son, C. S. Kitterman and family. Mrs. Willard Ulrich will spend tomorrow in Indianapolis. Mrs. Henry McMahon, son and daughter and Leo and Howard Marlatt, of Milton, were the guests of Mrs. Flora Clawson and family, Saturday evening, and attended the play. Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Williams of Richmond, Mrs. Squire Cornthwaite and Miss Rachel Coffman were entertained Sunday at dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kerlln. Mrs. Otis Harris and son, Robert, have returned to Richmond after a few days spent with the former's parents. Rev. and Mrs. J. E. Coffin. Harry and Robert Bertsch, Mrs. Charles Hageman and daughter, Gaynelle, and Mrs. Lawrence Ogborn attended the funeral of A. U. Martin at Union City, Monday. The interment of the remains of Dr. Fred Kimmer who died Sunday at his home on West Main street, oc curred today at Bentonville. Dr. Kimmer was thirty-nine years of age. A daughter, Helen, in California, one son, Russell, who resides with him, survive him, the wife having died in August, 1900. Mrs. John Neenan of Terre Haute, will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dairy and family this week. Mrs. C. B. Nicholas, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. George Robey, returned today to her home in Centervllle after four months spent in the home of her daughter. Miss Stella Herron was entertained Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cary and Miss Jennie McGrew. David Wissler, of New Castle, spent Sunday in Cambridge City. Prof. L. E. Thompson, has tendered his resignation as principal of the local high school to take effect at the close of the present school term. Prof. Thompson will enter college the coming year. The next number on the Home Economics lecture course under the auspices of the Helen Hunt club, will be that of Thursday evening, at which time "The American Rose Garden" will be given at the Royal, on south side of Main street.
