TRACTIOH SERVICE

EAST IS RE

SUED

First Car From Dayton Since Recent Flood Arrives Today. fnterurban service between Dayton and Richmond was resumed this morning when an interurban came in from West Alexandria, Ohio. A car was supposed to have started from Dayton at 8 o'clock this morning, arriving in Richmond at 10 o'clock. This car, however, did not arrive until afternoon as the power was cut off shortly after leaving Dayton. A regular schedule with cars running every two hours will be maintained until the power becomes refailar enough to permit the operation of cars every hour. Cars have been running west as far as Dunrieth and New Castle for several days. It is expected that through service to Indianapolis will be resumed shortly. Throogh freight and passenger service frcon Cincinnati to Chicago was resumed-'over the C. and O. this morning.

If there is a man in the world who knows exactly how to manage a woman, he is also wise enough not to give away hlis secret.

LOCAL ART EXHIBIT

By Richmond Artists Is Most Meritorious One.

Arrangements are being made this week for the first local art exhibit held in this city for six or seven years.

The entire affair is under the direction of Frank Girardin of Richmond, one of the best known Indiana artists. The pictures will be hung Friday and will be on exhibition Sunday afternoon, April the 13th. The Public Art gallery where the pictures are to be hung will also be arranged with palms, ferns and flowers. There will be about one hundred and six paintings in the collection, depicting landscapes sketched in California, Utah, Arizona, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Indiana. Quite a few of the canvasses portray scenes in and around Richmond. This exhibit will be thoroughly representative of the work of Richmond artists and no doubt will be largely attended. Many persons from out of the city have signified their intention of attending and the gallery will be open to the general public at all times. No admission will be charged and membership tickets will not be needed as the affair Is not under the auspices of the Art Association, but is being conducted solely by local artists. All the pictures will be for sale. Among artists who will have pictures on exhibition at this time are

Frank Girardin, J. Elwood Bundy, M. T. Nordyke, A. W. Gregg, William Holly, Alden Mote, G. Herbert Baker, Miss Anna Newman, Miss Florence Fox, Mrs. Maud Kaufman Eggemeyer and Elwood Morris. Judging from personal observation of the work to be displayed the exhibition will excel, both as to extent and merit any collection ever before shown by a group of Richmond artists. They have not been followers or copyists of any of the modern art "fads" and their work has shown such individuality that the "Richmond school" is now a recognized group in the world of art. They endeavor to express that which is most graceful and pleasing in form, harmonious in color, and poetic in feeling, and to avoid that which is sensational and extravagant, realizing that the true artist will seek to portray the real spirit and soul of nature. The work of the Richmond group for the most part avoids any extremes.

Fined on Charge of Assault and Battery. "Uush," was the only reply which Prosecuting Attorney Reller could obtain from Shaban Ishban and Hebrun Houmet, Greeks, charged with assault and battery, when the two men were asked in police court this morning to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty to the charge. The vigorous shaking of their heads which accompanied the reply of "oush" was to mean "no" or "not guilty" but it was necessary to bring in a Greek interpreter to tell the men the evidence which was introduced on the case. In spite of their denials through the interpreter, the men were fined $5 and costs each which they paid. Ishban and Houmet were arrested at the baggage room at the Pennsylvania station yesterday afternoon after they had engaged in a loud altercation in their native tongue, the argument

finally terminating in blows. The met did not use their fists but fought wit!: open hands. James Paust, baggagemen, stated that the men had come into the baggage room to check their baggage to Indianapolis and that after having done this they stepped outside the door and raised a disturbance. The men were arrested by Patrolman Law-ler.
