MINISTER IS GLAD THAT MORGAN DIED

Rev. Richmond Says He was Great Burden for Episcopal Church to Carry. (National News Association) NEW HAVEN, Conn., April 3. The Rev. George Chalmers Richmond, a Philadelphia Episcopal clergyman, created a sensation at the meeting of the Connecticut alumni of the Yale Divinity School today by sajting he was not sorry that J. P. Morgan was dead and that he thought the Episcopal church would make greater progress as a result. The Rev. Mr. Richmond later amplified his statement by saying, "did J. P. Morgan go to heaven, and if not why not? Like the loss of the Titanic and the Ohio floods the death of Mr. Morgan was Providential. I believe that as a result of his death the Episcopal church will make far more rapid progress. Mr.

Morgan had the house of bishops under his control and he had the diocese of New York absolutely in the hollow of his hand. Under his rule more attention was paid to cathedral building than to public welfare. He was a man who believed in inequality ab- ' solutely and cared nothing for union labor." Mr. Richmond raised a storm by bitterly denouncing the proposed marriage of John Jacob Astor to Miss Madaline Force prior to that event.

A verdict was filed today by Coroner R. J. Pierce on the death of Joshua C. Stevens, aged 10 months, of 1622 North G street. According to Coroner Pierce the child died as a result of in

attention and malnutrition. The mother reported to the coroner that she was working for a living and at the time of the child's death it was under the care of its sister. The child had been ill for five weeks. The mother believed the child only had a cold and would soon recover. Testimony was taken from Frank Sullivan, Hallie Hahn, and Ezma White, neighbors of the Stevens family. The testimony of the neighbors corroborated that of the mother of the child.

EDMONTON, Alta April 3 What may be a forerunner of a third party in western Canada is sensed by politicians in the pledge incorporated in circular letters, distributed by Rev. W. G. W. Fortune, secretay of the Alberta Temperance and Moral Reform association, acting under the direction of the Committee of One Hundred. The plan is to work only for the election of men who are unalterably opposed to the liquor traffic. The pledge follows: presence of my fellow men, that so long as the liquor traffic exists in the province of Alberta, I will renounce my party ties and affiliations, of whatever kind they may have been, if necessary, and will stand firmly by vote and influence with the Committee of One Hundred, for the election of competent men to the legislature." Mr. Fortune reports that many are signing the pledges.
