Made From CJlncfrmati Richmond by 13 Men.
to
After a Journey of twelve hours.
rthirteen employes of the Pennsyl
vania railroad arrived in Richmond
last night from Cincinnati, claiming that they were forced from that city because of the lack of food. The trip to Hamilton was made on two hand ears, starting at Norwood Heights.
which is eleven miles north of Cincinnati on the Pennsylvania railroad. J. M. Stauffer, who is a conductor oa
the Pennsylvania railroad, estimated
thst it will take a force of one thousand men more than thirty days to repair the damage along the line so that traffic bstween Richmond and Cincinnati can he resumed. At Norwood Heights the men were able to get two hand cars. With seven men on one car snd six on the other car, tbs journey was started at 7:80 Saturday morning. Not much dtficoity was encountered until Hamilton was reached when the hand cars ware abandoned. The men walked through Hamilton to the Miami river, which they forded several miles north of Hamilton. At Seven Mile two other hand cars were obtained snd the men came through to "Richmond on these. They were forced to leave the tracks at many pi ace a and drag the hand cars through meadows and fields and cross streams where the bridges and trestles have been washed out. When they arrived in Richmond the men were alaest exhausted from the long and fatiguing trip, and were nearly famished. The names of only nine of the men were obtained. These are: J. M. Staufer. 14 North Twelfth etreet. conductor; J. E. Wellbaum.
