Peculiar Parcel The introduction of parcel post service in this country calls to mind a peculiar incident that took place in England some' time ago, and which would occur oftener if the English people were informed concerning one of the parcel post regulations in that country.. A gentleman wished to reach a customer living in a remote part of Balham, one of the suburbs of London, and It was very urgent that he find him quickly. Knowing nothing of the locality, he called at St. Martin le Grand to consult a directory. Stating his case to a clerk, he was amazed to learn that he could be sent to the address by "parcel post" by paying a fee of three pence a mile. The gentleman had never heard of such a thing, and It is said that very few in England know that it can be done. Accepting the offer, the gentleman was placed in charge of a messenger familiar with all parts of the city, and was soon on his way. The boy carried a printed slip on which was written a ; MIDDLEBORO, OHIO 4 L MIDDLEBORO, O., March 27. Mrs. Cora Danner was called to Elwood on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. Hankins. On account of the damage done to the roads and church at Middleboro, Class No 4 of tha Sabbath echooLwUl postpone their entertainment at the church until Saturday evening, April 5th. Mrs Lizzie Coblentz, who is one the sick list, is reported better. Mrs. George M. Kennedy was called to Greenville last week on account .of the illness of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Rahn No. 6 Sabbath school class had a box social with Mrs. Edward Glunt, Sunday. Mrs. Ollie Garrett was able to come home Saturday. Mr.: John McEldowney is able to be out again. Rev. Richardson and wife was called to Muncie on account of the sickness of her sister. A surprise party was hed on Mrs. Minnie Clark, it being her birthday. MARTIAL LAW NOW AT ANDERSON Anderson Ind., is now under martial law, and the city is under command of Lieutenant Charles Howells, who is in charge of sixty-three national guardsmen. Park Place is flooded, and hundreds of people living in the lowlands are homeless and are being sheltered on the hills by hospitable nejghbors. No lives were lost, but the property loss will be extremely heavy. Capt. M. P. Nolan, in charge of the national guard, relinquished his office to go to Dayton, O., where he has a wife and family living near the center of the flooded district. He arrived in Richmond last evening at seven-thirty, and is attempting to get to Dayton. CHURCHES TO AID VICTIMS At a called meeting of the Ministerial association last night it was decided to have churches In different sections of the city optn all day Thursday to receive such clothing as the people of Richmond may desire to send to the flood sufferers in Dayton. The Reid Memorial church will b ethe central depot, to which all goods may be brought, and the following churches have been designated as sub-stations where goods may be left by those in their respective neighborhoods: Second Presbyterian, on N. 19th street; East Main Street Friends; St. . Paul's Episcopal Pariah House; St. Paul's Lutheran, Third M. church, In Falrview; and for the West Side, the Second English Lutheran and the home of Murray S. Kenworthy, 602 National Road. It is hoped that a quick response will be made to this call as it Is understood that the need is very great. Please act at once tomorrow will be late. ARTHUR CATES, Pres.

Post Regulation
description of the "parcel" in charge, under the heading, "Article required to be delivered," and before leaving the customer's house, both the customer and the gentleman were required to place their signatures on the paper. The limit in weight for anything delivered by parcel post in England (as in this country) is generally understood to be eleven pounds, but there is one clause which reads: '"A person may be conducted by express messenger to any address on payment of milfeage fee." It may be only a question of time when such a transaction may be effected through parcel post in the United States, and if this becomes possible, it is to be expected that the Americans, ever alert and on the lookout for anything that makes for speed in business or otherwise, will avail themselves of the privilege, and Uncle Sam will do a thriving business in large cities in the delivery of human "parcels."
