' HEW "BIRD LAWS I! Meeting of Hunters Will Be Held in Indianapolis or St. Louis. (National News Association) WASHINGTON. March 26. Within a few months a meeting of hunters, as well as those who are interested in affording protection to migratory birds such as wild ducks and wild geese, will be held either in Indianapolis or St. Louis for a thorough airing of views on the new Federal law which is designed for the protection of migratory game. ; It is intended to call four meetings of this character under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture, one to be held in the South, one in the ' East, one in the far West and the other at Indianapolis or St Louis for the north central states. 1 Views on the new legislation, both pro and con, will be invited and among those who will receive special invitations are the authorities who are charged with the enforcement of the game lawB in the various states. The Department of Agriculture is aiming first of all to harmonize the various views on the subject and to bring about the fullest possible measure of co-operation between the general government and the states, and it is striving to obtain a general consensus of views before it promulgates the new migTatory game regulations. The provision of Federal legislation referred to, which promises to put a quietus on duck hunting except under stringent Federal regulations, is contained in the agricultural appropriation bill, to which former President Taft affixed his signature not longer than an hour before the recent Congress expired.-!, is as follows: "All .wild geese, wild swans, brant, wild ducks, snipe, plover, woodcock, quail, wild pigeons and all other migra tory game and insectiverous birds which in their Northern and Southern migrations pass through or do not remain permanently the entire year within the border of any state or ter'ritory, shall hereafter be deemed to be within the custody and protection of the government of the United States and shall not be destroyed or taken contrary to regulations hereinafter provided." President Dugdale of the Seattle club of the Northwestern League has engaged George Paris, a famous coast athlete, as trainer for his team. Paris now lives in Vancouver and will report to Seattle about March 15. Paul Mcllale has been elected a director of the Worcester Club of the New England League, succeeding Jimmy Collins, who last season sold his interest in the club. Jesse Burkett is the president and manager of the team. In return Tor the transfer of Catcher Dan Rowley to the Phillies, the Portland Coast League club gets in Loan, and Pitcher Stanley, formerly with Atlantic City in the Tri-State League. According to a report circulated in Central League circles, the disclosures in the Evansville debt case will result in action being taken at the coming Central League meeting to bar Aggie Grant from the league in any capacity. A third member of the Manush family has broken into baseball. He is Earl and has signed with Meridian of the Cotton States League. Frank is with Toledo and George is manager of the Keokuk team of the Central Association. President Sol Myers of the Indianapolis Club, though he has a "farm" at Springfield, is also expected to help Evansville out in building a team. Woolery, a special student at Purdue, lost his life in the raging water of the Wabash river between the Main and Brown street bridges yesterday afternoon when the torrent upset a canoe in which he and G. B. Ely, a junior at Purdue, were trying to get to the Brown street levee to rescue" Paul Wangerln and Charles Burhouse, who were marooned there. Wangerin and Burhouse were standing on the west pier of the Brown street bridge when two of the spans collapsed. Woolery and Ely were warned against venturing out but persisted. About thirty feet from the shore, a wave struck the frail craft and upset it. Woolery tried to swim but could not and he sank in abbut sixteen feet of water. His body has not been recovered. . u Swims to Safety. Ely swam through the rough water until he came to the roof of a barn. The water was sweeping around the barn at a terrific rate when Capt. John Kluth of the Police Department arranged a pulley which Ely hung to and he was carried to the Main street levee. His frantic mother was on the shore watching him. Woolery, who lost his life, is a son of F. P. Woolery of 1962 Broadway, Indianapolis MOTORCYCLE NOTES It- is impossible for the naval officers to take a spin over the "restless deep," but with a keen anticipation of motorcycling possibilities while In port, several of the officers of the U. The New England League will open its season on April 30, but the schedule has been held up pending settlement of the Fall River franchise's location. The playing season will be shorter and a number of double headers will be scheduled. Announcement from Nashville is that Akron of the Interstate League, under its new ownership and with a new manager, will be a "farm" for the Nashville Club. Akron heretofore has been owned by the Columbus American Association Club. A player of whom much is expected by Manager Lou Castro of the Portsmouth team of the Virginia League is Mike Davis of Columbus, Ohio, who made a great record as a semi-pro last season. He is a catcher and rated as a hard and timely hitter.

NORTHBOUND CITY CAR DEMOLISHES RIG North bound city car Number 333 struck a buggy driven by Ham Beetly of Hollandsburg this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and completely demolished the buggy. Mr. Beetly and a man who was riding with him were thrown about twenty feet but escaped serious injury. Applying the Phrase. CITY IS I Biggest Flood in That Section Since 1866-Tracks Are Washed Out. CAMBRIDGE CITY, March 26. The flood which visited Cambridge City and vicinity Monday afternoon and night, is the greatest since 1866. The Whitewater river has overspread its banks inundating the east part of the town to the depth of three or four feet. Many citizens residing near the river abandoned their homes during the night. ' On the Big Four line between this city and Hagerstown, more than onehalf mile of track is washed out. There are numerous washouts along the P., C, C. and St. L., the L. E. and W. and T. H., I. and E. lines. All trains leaving Indianapolis during the night are held at this point, because of the damaged condition of the track near the river. The river has risen to the depth of three or four feet about the school building and the schools have been abandoned. While many of the homes near the river have been greatly damaged there have been no other serious results to the citizens. HAPPY HOLLOW HAS A HOUSE CLEANING A fire department company was sent to Happy Hollow this afternoon for the purpose of washing out the houses in that district which were littered with debris when the flood waters poured intothem. Their tenants are prepared to return for they have no more fears of an invasion by the river. Yesterday the firemen washed out various rooms in the Starr Piano company plant.

DECISION I WITHHELD In Case of Man Who Fought Patrolman.

The decision on the case of Fred Valcourt, who was arrested for public intoxication March 17, was withheld by Mayor Zimmerman in police court this morning. Valcourt was arrested in a North D street saloon after he had challenged Patrolman Lawler to a fight. Valcourt charges that the officer was unduly rough and had no reason for arresting him. He pleaded not guilty to public intoxication but witnesses stated that the man was under the influence of liquor when he was arrested.
