Eighteen Killed in Lower Peach Tree, Ala., and Five Killed in Salene, La., Early Today.
BULLETIN SELMA, Ala., March 21. The town of Lower Peach Tree, Ala., was wiped out by a tornado today and 18 white persons are known to have perished. Business houses and dwellings were leveled and the property damage will be many thousand dollars. The town has a population of 500. Six entire families were killed in the ruins of their homes.
FIVE WERE KILLED. SHREVEPORT, La., Mar. 21. Five persons were killed and
four injured when the town of Salene, La., was wiped out by a
cyclone today. The town has a population of 200.
storm which at certain points gained hurricane force struck the gulf states first, then swung northward and eastward over a part of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and New York. Telephone and telegraph wires were prostrated, both the Western Union and Postal companies losing all their trunk lines between Chicago and New York. A privately leased wire stood the
strain and late in the day, round about routes were established for commercial business.
Only the most meager facts were received from the stormswept area, but from the advices
at hand it is feared that the loss of life will be as heavy if not greater than that resulting from last week's storm when more than 100 lives were lost.

A motorcycle with a sidecar has just won a race over a "trolley" at Warehouse Point, Conn. John McDowell had just missed the trolley, and there would not be another for an hour, which meant that he would miss his train in the city and
be delayed there for many hours. F. H.
Blodgett came to his rescue and offered to catch the trolley with his motorcycle. McDowell hadn't much faith in the ability of his friend to do it, but accepted the offer, and in just one minute and ten seconds the sidecar was out of the garage and ready for the start. It was a dark night but the roads were good and the light from the motorcycle permitted the riders to reach a speed of about 46 mileswith safety. At first there was nothing but darkness ahead of them, but after a few minutes' ride they saw the light of the trolley on which they steadily gained until they finally came alongside the car. The motorman accepted the sudden appearance of the flying motorcycle as a challenge and turned on full power. But he was unable to cope with the two-wheeler, which, with wide-open throttle, sped past him to the next stop, where McDowell climbed from the side-car in time to board the trolley.

CHICAGO, March 21. Princess Ibrahim Hassan, who, before her marriage to a cousin of the khedive of Egypt, was Miss Ola Humphreys, of Oakland, Cal., passed through Chicago yesterday on her way to the Pacific coast. She arrived In New York on Monday. The purpose of the trip, the prineess said, was a visit with'her rel

a dook sne is writing advising girls, j
especially Americans, not to become wive3 of orientals, whether they be

"Not that I am dissatisfied," she explained. "The oriental Is the kind
est husband in the world. The reason
why 1 am advising American girls not to marry orientals is a rather curious one. Women No Mystery to Oriental. "It is that the orinetal is the only man who really understands women. His education lacks but one thing. He knows nothing of courtship. His strong point is love. He knows its ethics from A to Z. The result is that women no longer is the mystery of the house. She is its plaything. "Oddly enough, the oriental makes her like it, too. But in some indescribable fashion he deftly reverses their positions. The woman becomes the sui
tor; the man the pursued. Why? it is
very simple. The oriental understands women. He begins love right. No honeymoons. No flaming passion. Nothing
extraordinary. Just a plain very plain
beginning of love.
"The result justifies the theory.
Here is the difference. In America tht average marriage begins with a running start. The man in the first burst of love talks and acts as if it woulc

"The man loves her just as much as ever, only he Is getting back to normal. The wife worries because she is not getting as much love and affection as the man accustomed her to at first. Then they begin to be unhappy. "Here's my point: The oriental knows better. He accustoms his wife
to only as much affection as he can
n himself to create. Fur
ther than that he does not think. The
j wife, as we say here, should worry.
That's why American girls should
not marry orientals. They keep you
