stunts were played by the wind which at' times amounted to a gale. Much damage from the Btorm is reported from the north and west. All toll lines from the Citizens Telephone company have been out of order and a large force of men are repairing the damage caused by falling trees and telephone poles. Almost ail communication from surrounding towns has been cut off. The large smokestack of the Cambridge City Casket company was

blown down early this morning, crashing into a small shed below and crushing it. The same accident occurred in a similar manner last year. The smoke stack of the Cambridge City Laundry was also blown down. Farmers suffered in having straw stacks and small buildings blown over. One farmer reported that four chicken sheds which he recently erected, were blown over and carried several yards by the wind, releasing about fifty fowls, several of which werekilled, being crushed under the sheds. The west fork of the Whitewater River is swollen and a large amount of debris from the storm is being carried down the stream. The storm is believed to have been very severe north of here.

A peculiar incident occurred when

the school hackdriver was driving his hack to the country preparing to carry some of the school children to school. An unusually strong wind knocked the

hack over. No damage was done to the driver or the horses.

TREES BLOWN DOWN. (Palladium Special). ' CENTER VILLE, Ind., March 21. Damage from the wind in the rural districts is reported small although roofs were torn from several buildings. Several large trees were blown down, one near Jacksons Park having struck a smaller tree splitting its top to the ground.

TREES BLOCK ROADS. (Palladium Special) GERMANTOWN, Ind., March 21. Much damage to trees and fences is reported here as a result of the wind storm. Large trees were uprooted here, Mocking the roads to the south. Large hay stacks were blown over and the bay and straw, scattered. At one point north of here, a fence was torn loose and carried to the center of the road. The devastation to the roofs of sheds is said , to be large, several smaller buildings , have been turned over by the gale.. ,"' '

FLAG TORN FROM POLE. (Palladium Special.) ; PENNVILLE, Ind.;, March 21. Littie damage was' done here but nearby farms suffered losses through the gale and the heavy rain which accompanied it. Fields are standing under water. A large American flag was found flapping in the top of a large poplar tree south of here, having been torn loose from a pole at a school house. The wind tore the flag loose, from the trees this morning and it was recovered.

The rest of the staff will probably be elected this afternoon.

Fred Hollowell won the Earlham peace contest yesterday and will rep

resent Earlham in the state contest to be held later. Ernest Rupel won the second place. A reception will be held in Earlham Hall after the debate t night.

All Earlham students are busy preparing for the examinations which btgin tomorrow In all departments.
