WRECKED IN BLIZZARD. OMAHA, Neb., March 14.Four persons were killed and nineteen injured when Union Pacific train No. 12, known as the Colorado special, ran into the rear of train No. 4, the Atlantic
express, near Gothenberg, Neb., at daylight today. .The dead are: j Miss Edith Hoon, Cheyenne, Wyo. j Edwin Ousterhout, traveling man.
New York. ' Mr. and Mrs. August Meyer, Dennlson, Iowa. The worst blizzard of the year was raping in the vicinity of the wreck. Twenty inches of snow fell during the night. . ' Four men are missing and supposed to be dead as the result of a rear end collission between two freight trains on the Union Pacific railroad near , Herndon, Neb., early today. Those missing are the engineer, the rear brakeman and two stockmen. The terrible blizzard which raged all night is held responsible for this wreck as well as the passenger wreck near Gothenberg. Passenger train No. 12 was running behind passenger train No. 4, despite the fact that No. 12 was due in Omaha first. . The rear train crashed into the Pullman sleeper of No. 4, partly telescoping it and throwing It off the track. The coach ahead also was partly demolished and thrown into the ditch.
; AN ILLINOIS TORNADO. . SPRINGFIELD, 111., March 14. A tornado swept central and southern Illinois early today killing one man, injuring two others and doing property damage that may reach a million dollars. ! Charles Giltin, a farmer, living near Jacksonville, was killed. Clyde Griffiths was seriously injured by flying timbers at Jerseyville, and Frank Rosa at Whitehall, was blown against a building and seriously Injured. The towns that suffered most were Jerseyville, 'Whitehall, Carrolton, Chandlerville, Jacksonville and Winchester. Houses were moved from their foundation and in some places water stands' six inches deep In the streets.

A PETITION IS PILED
Alleging That Earl Guyer Should Have Guardian.
A petition was filed by Mrs. Candler probation officer, alleging that Earl Guyer, a child under the age of sixteen years is improperly cared for and a guardian will probably be appointed, for him. Josephine Guyer, mother of the boy who has the custody of her son is unable to properly care for him it is said. The child is said to be a delinquent.
RUSH COUNTY SWEPT. ' RUSHVILLE, Ind., March 14. Frank Darnell, aged 50, was instantly Hilled by lightning while returning to his home south of here late last night. A widow and six children survive. Lightning and wind did great damage throughout Rush county.
GIVES TALK BEFORE MARSHALLETTE CLUB In addressing members of the Marshallette Social club, colored, C. R. Richardson,1 an attorney here, declared that members of the organization should co-operate with all colored people in this city and support those who have ventured in business. Mr. Richardson made a comparison of the number of colored residents in Richmond with . that of other cities, who are engaged in business. He said that the number of colored business men in this city-is far below the average. The club elected Charles Skillens president and Calvin Burton secretary o fthe organization.

Handed in to Army Recruiting Officer. An order was received today by the local army recruiting office from Indianapolis authorizing the local post to enlist all colored applicants who should desire to enlist with the twentieth and twentyfifth colored infantry. Many colored residents of the city are taking advantage of the ten days enlistment period for which length of time the local post is authorized to receive applicants. One white man and four colored men handed in their names this morning. Those enlisted will be stationed at the Madison Barracks, New York.

Harold Thomas was arrested yesterday afternoon by Patrolman Westenberg for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk on Southwest Third street near fhe National road. He was fined 1 and costs in police court this morning. He was released and given time in which to pay the line. As the violation was of a city ordinance, the case was prosecuted by City Attorney Bond. Numerous complaints have come to the police for several months that persons riding bicycles on the sidewalk have forced pedestrians to walk the street to allow them to pass. Similar complaints have come from the east end.

COURT GIVES "GENE" MMHiALECTURE Mayor Tells of Little Man's Fall As Result of Liquor. "Gene" McMahan. age 45, a newsboy, was arrested at police headQuarters this morning by Patrolman Vogelsong, charged with public intoxication. He mas given a lecture by Mayor Zimmerman, who fined him $1 and costs which mas later suspended. McMabon took an oath he would never again touch a drop of intoxicating liquor. Mayor Zimmerman told of the little man's downfall from a prosperous property owned to a newsboy. In the
past fern years. McMahon has become f
an habitual drunkard. McMahon explained to the court the temptation which he had to undergo because of the fact that his businesa forced him to enter saloons constantly while selling papers. Yesterday McMahan mas ordered from a saloon by Patrolman Vogelsong. A few minutes later he gave Garrett Decker ten cents with which to buy him a drink of whiskey. Vogelsong compelled Decker to return the liquor to the saloon where it was urchased. Decker promised to report to the police any one mho tries to buy Mahan a drink in the future and on this promise McMahan mas released.
