Martin preached two excellent sermons in the M. 11 church Sunday iBorning and evening. Sunday night subject, "On the Road to Jerico," was delivered to an interestins audience. The .M. E. Aid society will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Emma Balling Saturday afternoon. C. D. Fleming gave a 'lasses social at his sugar camp Sunday. Carman Sells of Elwood, is a frequent visitor in this part of Indiana. Mrs. Emma Clark has been sick for the past few days. Mrs. Mary Franklin and son Benny, were at Hagerstown Saturday afternoon. Byram Cole and Lorin Lamb were in Richmond Saturday and played "we won't go home 'til mornin" owing to the wreck. Mrs. Wood of St. Joe, Illinois, is here visiting her sister Mrs. Thomas Durbln, who has been very sick the past several weeks but is now better. T. Cranor commenced cleaning up the ground for the new hotel Saturday. Irwin Hunt will held Sam Lucas with farm work after he is out this spring. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greenstreet entertained at dinner Sunday, Mr. and Mrs.' Ulysiss Maning and daughter, Rena. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Macy had as their dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Nate Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Cain and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Weyl entertained at dinner Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Lamb and children. Mrs. Job Swain is very sick today, Sunday: Mr3. G. W. Martin and Mrs. J. W. Taloy. were at Boston, helping with the gold medal contest. The medal was won by Miss Frances Llndsey of Economy. Emercon Atkinson of Muncie, was here Sunday. There will be Easter exercises at the M. E. church Easter Sunday. Lewis Oler, a prominent farmer south of town and Mrs. Florence Brooks of Huntington, were recently married and will live on Mr. Oler's farm near Sugar Grove. ! Ed Pitman of R'ishville, will visit relatives in this city this week and attend the Lackey sales. Mrs. Howard Elliott and son returned to their home in Newcastle Monday, after several days spent with the former's father, Enoch Highly, and other relatives. The Rebekah Aid society will meet Thursday afternoon in the I. O. O. F. hall, Mrs. Willard Petro and Miss Flora Moore, serving as hostesses. Ernest Wheelan and sister. Miss Elizabeth, spent Sunday with their brother, T. F. Wheelan and family. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Whiteley spent Sunday with Mrs. Lydia Ferris of Milton. Miss Edna Graves is improving after a week spent in the house with a badly sprained ankle, which she received in alighting from the traction car. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Ohmit entertained a few friends at dinner Sunday evening, - Covers were laid for Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Leslie and daughters, Frances and Thelma, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luddington and son, Ralph, and Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Romer and daughter, Mary Elizabeth. The guests numbering thirty-four, met at the home of Mrs. Ralpl Tague and proceeded to the Sowers' home, where the evening was most pleasantly spent. Refreshments were prettily served. A number of cases of whooping cough are reported in the town. H. S. Beard came down from Portland to attend the Lackey sales. Mrs. Beard and daughters, Mary and Bernice, are also spending the week with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Klingman spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fowler of Newcastle, Mrs. Klingman attending a meeting of the Pocohontas lodge Saturday evening. Mrs. Stella Bird was also in attendance at the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. John DuGranrut and the latter's brother, Will Hussey, were the guests Sunday, of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Whiteley. Fred Storch spent Sunday in Indianapolis, a guest at a birthday celebration given in honor of his sister, Mrs. Colbert. A number of cases of whooping cough are reported in the town. Supt. E. E. Oldaker has been given an Increase in salary for the coming year, raising the amount to $130 per month. Mrs. Harriet Palmer and daughter, Miss Ruth, of Germantown, entertained a large company of friends at dinner Sunday in honor of the eightysixth birthday anniversary of the former's mother, Mrs. Rebecca Condo, one of the oldest continuous residents of the community. The day was a very happy one for the old lady. After an elaborate dinner, the time was spent in genial conversation, Miss Palmer adding much to the pleasure of their guests by several piano solos. Ralph Myers of Warren, a great nephew, between whose birthday and Mrs. Conda's there is just half a century, sent a gift of beautiful cut flowers. Among the guests from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McDaniels and daughter Miss Amy, Mr. and Mrs. George Stonebaugh of this city, Mr. and Mrs. Uriah Morgan of Dublin and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kinsinger of Straughns. Mr. and Mrs. Will McGraw of Greenfield, will be the guests of E. R. McGraw and family, Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Wi'.son and daughter Mary Catherine, spent Sunday with Rev. Gutherie of Muncie. The work in the Rebekah lodge, in which the Milton degree team was to have assisted, was postponed from Monday evening until the twentyfourth, on account of the meetings in progress in Milton. At a meeting of the Cemetery Association of Germantown, held Saturday evening, the Board, composed of Messrs. Reuben, Urias and Edwin Bertsch, Charles Sarber and Edward Jacobs were re-elected to serve the coming year. MILTON MILTON, Ind., March 11 Mr. and Mrs. R. H. In honor of the occasion Mr. and Mrs. Coons were given a fine surprise by their childreen, Mr. and Mrs. Will Stahl and daughter, Miss Mary and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Coons, of Richmond. They came laden with dinner baskets and a fine spread was laid. Mrs. E. B. Newman and sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Harden, who are both quite ill with grippe are thought to be some better. Miss Nora Murphy was home from Richmond to spend over Sunday. Miss Ruby Moore was home from Richmond to spend over Sunday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Moore. Miss Eelena Hale, of Dublin, was here Sunday to attend the bedside of her sick aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Harden. The Rebekah Degree lodge will have practice Wednesday evening after Odd Fellows lodge. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Brown were at dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Martin V. Brown Sunday. Virgil Newman, of Cambridge City, visited his sick mother and other relatives at Milton, Sunday afternoon. Wike, over Sunday. Mrs. R. P. Lindsay has returned from a stay at Martinsville. The Ants of the Himalayas. In the Himalayas, on the side facing India, the limit of perpetual snow is about 6,500 feet higher than in the Alps. One result of this is that various forms of life are found in the great Asian mountains at an elevation which seems extraordinary. Among these are many species of ants. Up to nearly 10,000 feet the ants are very abundant, and even at the elevation of 12,000 feet four species have been found, and It is believed that more careful investigation would show that they exist evf-u at 13,000 feet or more.
