Great Suffrge Parade In Washington

TERRIBLE EXPLOSION. SHARON, Pa., March 7. Number one puddling furnace at the Wilkes rolling mill here blew up this morning. Nine men were injured, three fatally, and the big rolling mill was reduced to scarp. The injured are: Jerry Dunn, William Thomas, W. J. Davis, John Dunn, Richard Howells, Mike Lane, J. D. Dugan, J. B. Wilkes and Fred Miller. Thirty men were at work and how any escaped death is impossible to say. .The Dunn brothers were almost roasted alive. Their clothing was all burned off when they were rescued. The boiler rose 100 feet in the air and crashed through the roof of the boiler house. The explosion shook the entire city. Most of the injured men were taken from under tons of twisted steel, bricks and heavy beams by members of the fire department. The day force of thirty men had just gone on duty when the explosion occurred. A panic was caused throughout the city, residents being thrown from their beds and hundreds of windows shattered. Jerry Dunn and his brother John, and Michatel Lane cannot survive. The others sustained broken limbs, burns or internal injuries.

MAIL BEING BURNED By the Very Busy English Suffragettes.

(National News Association) LONDON, March 7. The "postal brigade" of the militant suffragettes' organization got busy in London today and in spite of the combined efforts of the police and detectives destroyed a large quantity of mail matter. Acid was poured into letter, boxes in the heart of the business district during the busiest hours of the day. The women's social and political union held a demonstration today in celebration of the defeat of the progressive candidates for the London county council yesterday. The suffragettes, some of whom were qualified to vote, opposed the progressive candidates because the latter had the support of the government. "We have shown them that we are a power in politics even if we have not all got the ballot, exclaimed Mrs. General Drummond. "It will not be very long before we control parliamentary elections as well. We hope within five years to send women to parliament and within ten years to be absolutely in control of the government." Offers are said to have been made to Sylvia, and Christobel Pankhurst, daughters of Mrs. Emmeline Pankhurst to do a vaudeville sketch in the United States, depicting a window smashing scene in London.

Richard Much, a squatter on two acres of shore property in the midst of the United States Steel corporations land at Cary, Ind., had his title confirmed by the Indiana supreme court. worst blizzard of the winter still had Cleveland in its grasp today, following its being borne in upon a fifty-mile gale last night. Blinding snow swept the streets and the mercury fell to ten above, making it the coldest March 7, since 1872. Gas was short and many suffered. One man lost his life as the i result of the storm. Tony Corino, 42, blinded by the swirling snow, failed to see or hear a Lake Shore engine at ; West 67th street crossing and was run down and killed. Overheated stoves caused numerous fires.

YANKEE SWINDLER BAFFLES ITALIANS

(National News Association) GENOA, Italy, March 7. A clever swindler, believed to be an American crook of international notoriety, defrauded the bank of Genoa out of $60,000 today. Two men entered the bank, apparently together, one of them presenting a check for $60,000. After examination, the check was found to be

genuine. Immediately after the other man presented a similar cheek for the same amount. As the first check had ' been found authentic and as the sec!ond was exactly like it, no examination was made of the latter and the . $60,000 was paid over. i The man at once left the bank and later the paper was found to be spurious. The theory of the police is that the swindler, through an accomplice, knew that a $60,000 check was to be presented and managed to make a duplicate with the exception of the name i of the payee. I 1
