Miss Lucy Hoke Smith, daughter of Senator Hoke Smith of Georgia, reported to the police today the loss of a horseshoe brooch, containing thirty diamonds ! and valued at $6,000. Miss Smith says she lost the brooch at the navy yard dance last Saturday night. It is believed the gem was stolen and Miss Smith spent several days in personal detective work before she reported her lee to the-poXe.

INJURES WIFE AND COMMITS SUICIDE
(National News Association), GALVESTON. Tex., Dec. 24. A. M. Punk, a prominent citizen of Cleveland, O., who with his wife and little son, has been spending the winter in the south, blew out his brains today after having attempted to kill his wife. The tragedy occurred at their apartments in the Tremont hotel. Mrs. Punk was probably fatally wounded with a bullet in the back of her head. Several gashes were cut on her forehead where Fuifk struck her prior to the shooting. A letter was found addressed to Mrs. Funk's brother in Brooklyn, N. Y., which indicated that suicide was premeditated.
