SOCIETY CARNIVAL ABOVE THE CLOUDS Spckane Will Use 1,000 Automobiles to Take People Up Mt. Spokane. (Palladium Special) SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. IS A winter society carnival above the clouds on the summit of Mount Spokane, the highest peak in Eastern Washington, Is to be undertaken by a number of Spokane Civic organizations after completion of an automobile road now being built up the slope of the mountain. Waldo G. Paine, a prominent railroad official who is chairman of th I'rogress and Prosperity division of the Spokane Chamber of Commerce, an organization of 1,000 business men, Is at the head of the project. Mr. J'aine's plan contemplates an annual carnival of winter sports above the clouds, to include skiing, tobogganing, coasting, sleighing and ice sports. To this event the people will be taken by 1,000 automobiles pressed into .service from the membership of the chamber of commerce, Ad club, Realty Beard, Transportation club and other organizations. '"The nearness and accessibility of Mount Spokane make the project entirely feasible," said Mr. Paine in outlining the plan to his committee. "On the completion of the automobile road now being built to the mountain's top we will be able to reach the summit by machine in an hour and a half, the grade to the top being very easy to negotiate. "We will have accommodations at the top for insuring human comfort. As to decorating, none is needed, as the trees and shrubbery put on a beau
tiful winter coat of crystals far surpassing anything man could do toward ' embellishment. I "New Orleans has its Madri Gras, ! Portland its Rose Festival, Seattle its Potlatch and Kansas City its Priests . of Pallas; but a carnival above the clouds on Mount. Spokane would be a ' thing unique in itself." i

Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets, the substitute for Calomel, oil the bowels and positively do the work. People afflicted with bad breath find quick relief through Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets. The pleasant, sugar-coated Tablets are taken for bad breath by all who know them. Olive Tablets act gently but firmly on the bowels and liver, stimulating them to natural action, clearing the blood and gently purifying the entire system of impurities. They do all that dangerous calomel does without any of the bad after effects. All the benefits of the nasty, sickening, griping cathartics are derived from Olive Tablets without griping, pain, or disagreeable effects of any kind. Dr. M. V. Edwards discovered the formula after seventeen years of practice among patients afflicted with bowel and liver complaint with the attendant bad breath. Olive Tablets are a purely vegetable compound mixed with olive oil. Take One every nrght for a week and note the effect. "Every little Olive Tablet has a movement all its own." 10c and 25c per box. The most vigorous acting by the greatest artists who have ever irfused a reproduction of life on the s'age or on the screen.

How Frostbite Comes. The first effect of cold on the skin la to cuntruct the tiny vessels that connect arteries and veins. Arteries are vessels that take blood from the heart. Veins are those that bring blood back to the heart, aud the connecting vessels are called capillaries. While these little vessels are contracting the skin Itself becomes tenser. In a few moments or minutes the effects change. The tiny nerves whose stimulation caused contraction of the capillaries are more or less rciralyzed. and the vessels dilate so the skin gets red.. Soon the veins are dilnted. and the skin becomes bluish. Then the mitrient fluid in the skin (the lymph) is coagulated, and the stretched skin ruptures or "chaps." If the cold Is more severe its action is deeper, and the blood Itself may be coagulated. This is frostbite.
The Murrette. An unusual civil war story will be told in motion pictures at this popular theater today. The production is from the well known Kay Bee studio and their past efforts in producing military plays is well and favorably known in Richmond. The title of their latest success is, "Blood Will Tell," in two parts, and critics pronounce it their greatest achievement.- In conjunction with this excellent offering an excellent Reliance comedy will also be shown, and a reliance comedy is always one that everybody enjoys This program is for this day only.
A Lean That Carnegie's Old Kinsman Didn't Want Repaid. Andrew Carnegie told the following Story with great relish. When his father -was leaving h'.3 native country to settle in America he borrowed 20 from a relative. The family had an uphill battle on the. other side of the Atlantic, but when the tide of prosperity turned with the son he remembered his father's indebtedness and determined to clear it off, together with Its accumulated interest. He started by remitting the sum of 20 and for several years sent the same amount, a dividend equal to exactly 100 per cent. Returning to Scotland, the Pittsburgh Ironmaster met his old relative. "Well," said Mr. Carnegie, "having paid up a good deal of the interest, I should like now to clear off the principal." "Ay, ay, Andrew, dinna ye fash yersel' nboot the loan! A'm pairfectly satisfied with the interest." "Oh, but I'm rich enough now, 1 think, to clear off the principal !" replied the millionaire. "Dinna mind the principal. Andrew,' said the relative. "It's very weel invested as it is'." London Family Herald, Laziness a Disease. Laziness should be regarded as a disease when no organic cause of 111 health exists, and people should be compelled to get through their allotted work as they would have to take their powders of quinine if they were suffering from Influenza. There are scores of self pitying loafers on the sick list of every doctor who need, not drugs, not "treatment" of auy sort, but simply work. To prescribe rest cures for this type is directly inciting them to a lazy life, when their dissatisfaction, general seediness and lack of vitality are the direct outcome of havlDjr too little to do already. It Is not more rest that they require, but compulsory, methodical, regulated work six days out of seven. Work Is the best medicine In the world, the Ideal stimulant, because it leaves no ill effects. High School Notes by . R. Smith
As today marks the final chapel ' assembly at the high school for this year, a special program has been arranged by Principal Neff. A chorus of twenty-ire members has been picked from the German classes and will sing several German folk songs. The regular high school chorus and the high school orchestra will complete the remainder of the program. The high school girls' athietic association, which is the largest social organization in the school, will have a Christmas party iu the gym this evening. The members of the junior class are arranging for a similar affair to be held in the high school gym Thursday night. Steele Comes. An excellent game of basketball is assured for Friday night when the Steele high school of Dayton will play the Richmond high school team on the Y. M. C. A. floor. Steele alweys turns
out a fast team and the rivalry between the two schools in the past has been intense. With the kind cf playing that the local team is capable of. the game should be a speedy one from start to finish. The night high school team will play a curtain raiser with one of the teams from the day school interclass league. The game will be called at S:15 o'clock. f Debating League. The Kokomo high school has started negotiations with the local school regarding the formation of a triangular debating league. Kokomo and Richmond, and another high school to be chosen later, are to compose the league. The plan calls for two teams in each school which will debate at home and away from home on the same evening the one team upholding the affirmative and other the negative side of the question at issue. The plan has been tried with success hy Earlham college and other institutions. Interest in foreusics at the Richmond high school is keen. The debating class has held many warmly contested debates in which the material of the school has had opportunity to

Beware of Imitations While substitution is not a part of modern merchandising, it is stiil practiced to a greater or less degree by a few merchants who haven't the courage to compete with their fellows along legitimate, fair, lutes, or who do not care for their customers
