AN EXPLOSION
WRECKS SHIPS
(National News Association) NAPLES, Dec. 13. A tremendous xplosion followed by fire occurred in he harbor this afternoon. It is reported that 100 small vessels were destroyed or damaged. Immediately following the explosion the mayor of Naples was requested by the harbor commandant to send all available doctors to the water front and to arrange for the disposition of bodies that might be recovered. He said he believed there had been heavy loss of life, but was unable to make any estimate. It is reported that the entire cargo of a ship loaded with dynamite had blown up and sunk every vessel within a radius of a mile. A large force of police was sent to the water front to preserve order

Representatives of Indiana colleges and normai schools will meet in In dianapolis, December 27 to determine the standing of the high schools of the stjate revealed by the students who filtered the Freshman class last fall. Pres. R. L. Kelly is one of the college presidents who will attend the meeting. Rnodes Scholarship. President R. L. Kelly has received a communication from President Bryan of Indiana university that the Rhodes scholarship committee will meet in Indianapolis, January 2 to choose Indiana's representative to Oxford. Applicants must file their blanks with Pres. Kelly before Dec. 27th. , Prize Bonehead. The first premium for the bonehead of Karlham college was awarded a member of the Senior class by the boys in Bundy dormitory, and the governor of the dorm, concurred in their decision. This Senior took a course on the Englisn essay in the English department. He managed to squeeze through two tests, and yesterday went to the office to see if he had to study very hard to bring his-grade above the passing mark. This credit was the only, one he believed he needed to complete his work in English. He learned, that he had taken the course last year and successfully passed the examination. Anglican Club. Anglican club, a select literary organization of the college, is making a study of representative writings of the various literatures of the world. At a recent meeting. Miss Alice M. say. Mrs. Nicholson Spoke. Mrs. John H. Nicholson of Richmond .read an interesting paper on "Nancy Hanks, the Mother of Lincoln," before the college body at a recent chapel exercise. Interclass Games. The Juniors defeated the Seniors by a score of 28 to 12 and the Sophomores trimmed thfe Freshmen 24 to 14 in recent games in the interclass league. The Sophs lead the column with three games to their credit, the Juniors follow, the Freshmen stand third and the Seniors bring up the rear with three straight defeats. The class teams will meet again this evening. The fight for premier college honors seems to center between the Sophomores and Juniors.

The high school basketball team will meet the Newcastle basketball team at the Y. M. C. A. tonight at 8:15. The Richmond team has been practicing conscientiously since the game at Anderson and has improved many of its weak plac3. This is the first appearance of the Richmond team here this season and a large delegation of high school students is expected out to cheer .their team to victory. No information could be secured as to the strength of the Newcastle team but a good game is expected. State Association. A notice of the annual meeting of the Indiana High School Athletic association to be held December 26 at Indianapolis was received by Principal Xeff of the high school today. Mr. Neff is the retiring president of the association and his successor will be chosen at the meeting. A list of resolutions accompanies the notice and the advisability of their adoption will be discussed by the members of the board. Several will prove of interest to the local high school and read as follows: Resolved, That pupils using tobacco shall be inelibigle under the I. H. S. A. A. rules.

school contests such as debating, music, declamation, etc. The association has a membership of 106 schools. Senior Orchestra. An orchestra of twelve members is being organized under the direction of Philip Paul Gates to play for the senior play, which will be given in the latter part of January. Mr. Gates is thoroughly proficient in this line and an excellent musical program is assured.
