LOVING CUP FOR EARLHAM ORATORS Alumni to Purchase Loving Cup for Best Extemporaneous Speaker.
WILL HOLD DEBATES
Students Are Taking Interest in Basketball and Organize Class Teams.
It is reported on good authority that a number of Earlham alumni are collecting money for a 6ilver loving cup to be contested for by college orators each year. Competition will be open to Earlham under-graduates only, and will probably take the form of an extemporaneous speaking contest. Those desiring to enter will give in their names, and a few hours before the contest the subject will be given out. The speech must be prepared in that time, and, on account of the brief time for preparation, cannot be an oration committed to memory. The winner each year will have his name engraved upon the cup. The idea has aroused considerable interest among the orators of the college. Class Primaries. The class primaries looking toward the selection of Earlham's representative in the State Oratorical Contest have been held and the following have been chosen for the final contest: Senior, Miss Ora Wright, "Conservation of Manhood"; Junior, Walter E. Spahr, "Price of Progress";. Sophomore, Miss Zella Hardin, "Tolstoi"; Fred Hollowell, "Co-operation and International Peace"; Malcolm Campbell, "Child Labor"; Francis C. Anscombe. "The Price of Peace"; Fresh, man. Miss Myrle Fellows, "Christianity and World Peace." The final college contest will be held December 10, and promises to be a spirited affair. The winner is to receive $35, second place is awarded with $15. Debaters Clash. The Junior-Freshman semi-final for the Earlham debating team was held Monday evening. The debaters were: Juniors, H. Paul Hall, John Cox, Moses Bailey; Freshmen, Harry Wooley, , Harold H. Peterson, Mark Mills. The Judges, Professors Kenworthy, Woodward and Myrick, declared the speakers to be bo closely bunched in the marking as to make it an unusually 'hard contest to judge. The winners, Hall, Cox and Wooley, will meet the winners of the Senior-Sophomore debate in the final contest, December 13th, for the selection of the college team. Basketball Games. Regular practice is being held for the twelve class basketball games to be held before the end of Earlham's fall term. This year there are to be twice as many games as formerly, since six games can hardly give a fair chance to any team. Under the old syStem each class played each other of the three but once, while now they will meet twice. The first games will - occur Friday afternoon, December 6, when the Juniors will play the Sophomores, and the Seniors the Freshmen. The following are the leaders for the classes: Senior, Jay Stanley; Sophomore, Fay Winslow; Freshman, Edward fanning. The Junior class has not chosen its captain as yet, though Ray Beery is thought by many to be their probable choice. Murray Is Delegate. Floyd Murray has gone as the Earlham Press club's representative to the annual meeting of the Indiana Intercollegiate Press Club association. . It is held at Hanover this year, Decern-

ARE PLANNING TO COLLECT MONEY
Promoters of the Guest House are planning a concert to be held shortly after the holidays. The funds realized from the concert, which will include renditions by almost all the musicians of the city, will be applied to the fund. The musical program will be under the direction of Prof. R. S. Sloan, supervisor of music in the local schools. It is believed that the association will be able to open the doors of the guest house to the working women of the city within the next six months. The articles of incorporation were recently filed with the secretary of state.
A Staple Medicine For AH Families
From Infancy to Old Age a Reliable Family-laxitave is Most Needed Try This One. It is inconceivable in this day of general intelligence that any family would be without a simple remedy for the miner ills of life, for often by giving such a remedy in time a serious disease can be frustrated and a life
saved.
For example, if at the first sign of a cold a simple laxative-tonic like Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin were given the beginning of a serious lung affection or of a typhoid fever might be avoided. And also in headaches, nervousness, etc., a small dose of this remedy would relieve the congestion and replace distress with comfort,
j Mothers give it to tiny infants and lit
tle children, and grown people take it with equally good effect. Thousands of good American homes are never without it, among them the homes of Mrs. Martha Wilber, Vandalia, 111., and Mrs. E. Crushshon, 1110 7th Ave., Rock Island, 111., who say they would as soon be without the necessities as without Syrup Pepsin. It saves the health of the family, and
lit saves doctor's bills. It is a guar
anteed cure for any form of stomach liver and bowel trouble, constipation, indigestion, biliousness, gas on the stomach, headaches, drowsiness after eating ,etc. Have no hesitancy about giving it to any member of the family, however young or old, for it contains
