EDMONTON, Alta.. Dec. 3 "There Is not the remotest danger of war be-
are closer today than ever. I haxa no
patience with, the war gossips, of a Britannfcco-Gesmanico embrogillo. It can not be in this age." Herr Webber, court councilor of Leipzig, Germany, and owner and. publisher pf the IlSustrated Zeitxing, said this here today is announcing that a ' hundred ororainent bankers, manufac
turers and merchants will visit Ed
monton next. June on a tourof western Canada.
"At home and abroad Iam an advocate of an international comity that makes for business development, Herr Webber added, "feind I believe that Canada can be itde a link for uniting Great Britain and Germany more closely in friendship. Canada has many claims. "I beliewe that Germany could profitably share with Great Britain and Canada in the development of the country. There are vast opportunities for .German manufacturers, owing to the youth of the dominion and the rapid development of the coast and prairie provinces and the opening of the Peace River country to the no-th. "The party of German business men coming to the Canadian West next summer is prepared to invest several millions of dollars in new enterprises 'and some of this money undoubtedly will find its way into Edmonton. The people here impress me as being alert, progressive and enterprising. They have faith in their city and the fullest confidence in the country. Nothing can stop their progress now."
Destroy the dandruff germs, that's the only known way to eradicate dandruff and PARISIAN SAGE contains just the ingredients that will destroy
germs.
Dandruff causes falling hair and baldness because the little dandruff germs rob the hair roots of the nourishment that should go to supply life, luster and vigor to the hair. PARISIAN SAGE costs but 50c a bottle at druggists and toilet goods counters everywhere. It is guaranteed to banish dandruff, stop falling hair or scalp itch, or money back. The girl with the Auburn hair is on every bottle. It is a most delightful and daintily perfumed dressing that quickly invigorates the scalp. "My hair was falling out badly until I began to use PARISIAN SAGE Hair Tonic, but it looks fine now. My hair was getting very thin, but it is getting thick and wavy." Eliza Archer, 60 Church Street, Hartford, Conn., June 5. Mail orders filled, charges prepaid, by Giroux Mfg Co., Buffalo, N. Y. Leo H. Fihe guarantees it. (Advertisement)

Owes Her Life to Eckman's Alterative
fiA Valuable Remedy for Throat and Lungs.
- Eckman's Alterative is being used 'with success in the treatment of Tufberculosis in all parts of the country. ' Persons who have taken it, improved, gained weight, exhausting night sweats stopped, fever diminished, and many recovered. If you are interested to know more about it. we will put you in touch with some who are now well. You can investigate and judge fo yourself. Read of Mrs. Govert's recoTtery. Griffith, Ind. "Gentlemen: Thinking that perhaps short history of the remarkable recovery of jny mother-in-law (Mrs. Anna Govert) might benefit some other sufferers, I give the following testimonial: About September 10, 1908, she was taken sick with Catarrhal Pneumonia, and continually grew worse, requiring a trained nurse. Night sweats were so bad that it was necessary to change her clothing once or twice every night her cough increased and got so bad that everybody expected that she would not live much longer. In January, when Rev. Wm. Berg, of St.
Michael s Church, at Shereville. Ind., prepared for her death, he recommended that I get Eckman's Alterative, and see if it would not give her some relief. I then requested the attending physician to give his dagnosis and he Informed me that she had Consumption and was beyond all medical aid. "When I asked if he thought that it was useless to try the Alterative, he replied that 'No physician could help ber any and I could suit myself about It.' So I immediately had Rev. Wm. Berg to send for a bottle. Practically without hope for recovery, I Insisted that she try the Alterative, which she did. I am glad to say that she soon began to improve. Now, she works as hard as ever, weighs twenty pounds heavier than she ever did before she took sick, and is in good health. She frankly says she owes her life and health to Eckman's Alterative." (Sworn Affidavit) JOS. GRIMMER. Eckman's Alterative is effective in Bronchitis, Asthma, Hay Fever; Throat and Lung Troubles and in upbuilding the system. Does not contain (poisons, opiates or habit-forming

es himself, and leaves a wide open opportunity for the critical observer. Recently, in Chicago, a well known minister of the gospel, who had been witnessing a performance of "A Modern Eve" approached Mort H. Singer, the producer whom he knows very well. "I hope you are enjoying the performance," said Mr. Singer. "Very much indeed," complimented the clergyman. "But why have an unnecessary scandal in the show?" "Scandal : ' gasped the producer. "Why, A Modern Eve' is the sweetest, cleaniest, daintiest musical comedy in the world. Mothers bring their daughters, husbands their wives and young men their sweethearts to see it because of its pure atmosphere. Where do you see a scandal? "Well," smiled the observant clergyman, "While you have a marriage ceremony at the end of the first scene, your minister and the bridal couple never completed the wedding ceremony, and yet they are living happily together in the second act." "Why they even received the wedding ring," remonstrated Mr. Singer. "But the minister never pronounces them man and wife, in place of which the bridegroom breaks into an ecstatic song," asserted the critic. All of which was true. Upon looking
over the manuscript, it was found that the wedding scene was complete, even as the critical minister desired, but the stage manager, when questioned, admitted that he had cut out the final words of the wedding ceremony in order to put in four more bars of the lively song, so that the scene would not drag.
"Bunty." The perfume of heather, thistle and evergreen will permeate the stage of the Gennett theater, when the remarkable success, "Bunty Pulls the Strings" the quaint Scottish comedy, will appear on Saturday, Dec. 7, after one of the most phenomenal runs New York has seen since the days of "H. M. S. Pinafore" over thirty years ago. It played over one year at the Comedy Theater, New York, where the box-office takings have been exceptionally large; Chicago hailed it with delight and kept it for five long months, and the company organized for a special tour of the Canadian provinces during the past season was greeted with capacity audiences in every city visited, from Montreal to Vancouver, B. C, and "there's a reason." "Bunty Pulls the Strings" is "so different." It is one of those plays that make theatergoers. The minister and the layman enjoy it equally well. All find themselves away from the influence of the theater, surrounded by large gatherings of novelty seekers. They seem rather to be visiting a quaint Scotch upland country folk, a people of whom they have heard little and there they are introduced to the small ways of a small community.
The Murrette. Yesterday, despite the cheerless weather, this theater did an enormous business which speaks well for the old time drama. "Hazel Kirke" was the feature and it was indeed a feature,
both acting and scenic arrangements i
being perfect. Today the program consists of a new Western drama entitled "The Moccasin Print." a Gaumont drama, "Olga The Adventuress," and an excellent Reliance under the name
j of "Thanksgiving." Arrangements are
complete for the presentation at this theater upon Friday of this week of the greatest war drama ever produced by any film manufacturer entitled "The Invaders" in three reels. From the studio of the Kay-Bee Co., producers of the famous war drama "When Lee Surrenders."

BOILING AN EGG.
ff It Gives You Trouble You Might Try John Randolph's Way. The boiling of au egg seems a simple matter, but many a breakfust has been spoiled and many a temper rasped by the cook's failing to observe the precise number of minutes the process should occupy. That very original man. John Ran dolph, is said to have invented a method of getting his eggs cooked exactly to his taste that worked perfectly. As is the case in many country homes in the south, the kitchen was in a separate building at some distance from the house, and servants were plenty. When the "sage of Roanoke" took his seat at the breakfast table there was a line of servants from the dinin.i room to the kitchen. Mrs. Randolph, the mother of the statesman, held an open watch in her hand. "In!" exclaimed Mr. Randolph, and the word "in" was passed from mouth to mouth until it reached the waiting cook, who dropped the eggs into the water. After the requisite number of seconds the holder of the timepiece signified that the cooking was done. "Out!" went forth the command in like manner, and the eggs were quickly removed. The system required six or seven servants to cook one egg. but Randolph was accustomed to declare that this was the only way that he could get it cooked to suit him. Youth's Companion.
Sick headache, billiousness, dizziness, coated tongue, foul taste and foul breath always trace them to torpid liver, decayed fermenting food in the bowels or sour, gassy stomach. Poisonous matter clogged in the intestines, instead of being cast out of the system is re-absorbed Into the blood. When this poison reaches the delicate brain tissues it causes congestion and that dull, throbbing sickening headache. Salts, cathartic pills, oil and purgative waters force a passageway for a day or two yes but they don't take the poisons out and have no effect upon the liver and stomach. Cascarets immediately cleanse and regulate the stomach, remove the sour undigested and fermenting food and foul gases, take the excess bile from the liver and carry out of the system all the constipated waste matter and poisons in the bowels. A Cascaret tonight will surely straighten you out by morning. They work while you sleep a 10-cent box from your druggist means your head clear, stomach sweet, and your liver and bowels clean and regular for months. (Advertisement)
HEALTH RECORD OF CITY AND COUNTY
AN INGENIOUS CLOCK.
Curious Automaton That Was Made In London a, Century Ago. One of the most wonderful timekeepers known to horologists was made in London, England, a hundred years ago and was sent by the president of the East India company as a gift to the emperor of China. The case was made in the form of a chariot, in which was seated the figure of a woman. This figure was of pure ivory and gold, and the right hand rested upon a tiny clock, fastened to the side of the chariot. Portions of the wheels which kept track of the flight of time were hidden In the body of a tiny bird, which had seemingly just alighted upon the woman's finger. There was a canopy above, so arranged as-to conceal a silver bell. The bell was fitted with a little hammer, also of silver, which, although it did not appear to have any connection with the clock, struck the hours regularly and could be made to repeat by touching a diamond on the woman's bodice. In the chariot, at the woman's feet, there was a golden figure of a dog. and above were two birds, apparently flying before the chariot. This beauti
ful ornament was made almost entirely of gold and was elaborately adorned with precious stones. St. Louis Globe-1

SARTORIAL CRUELTY.
Sad Story of a Parisian Smart Sot Dami and Her Seven Gowns. They tell a story of an unfortunate Parisian society woman who, being terribly pushed for a gowu to wear at a great occasion and being also In debt to ber dressmaker, sold seven gowns for the price of oue to Mme. X., who is a shrewd dealer in castoff finery. Among these gowns was one hardly rumpled and which, though very nir.gniticent. had evidently been worn at most only once. This dress Mine. X. sold as a model to Mme. V., who was the society woman's dressmaker and who had been obdurate about making another thing for the por little woman without cash down. When this "model" came the dress maker saw a chauce for a big return of money, so she compromised with ber customer and agreed to let her have a new dress, just imported, for n very low figure, whereat the poor little woman paid all the money she had received for all her dresses, and out Mme. Y. brought the model, newly pressed and touched up. The poor society woman talked her eelf blue in the face, but she could not 6ay anything to protect herself with oat betraying her dealing with Mme X., so. poor thing, she danced in hei o'd frock after all, having swapped al tier other gowns for the privilege.
He Hit Back. When the late Major General F. D. Grant was stationed at Fort Sam Houston as commander of the department of Texas the cook of the house hold left. Mrs. Grant spent several days trying to get another one. One day an impudent, incompetent woman applied. She delivered as her ultimatum that she was to have two afternoons off, the use of the kitchen for the entertainment of her society friends and various other dispensations. General Grant came into th room and heard her. "Do you speak French?" he asked "Who? Me? No. sir." "Do you play on the piano?" "No, sir." "Well." said the general, "we can't think of having a cook who isn't able to speak French and play on the pi nno." Philadelphia Saturday Eveninp Topr.
