ANNUAL CONVENTION OF Y, AUA, TODAY Forty-third Annual State Gathering Opened with Many Delegates.
HAMMOND, ; Ind., Nov. 22. The forty-third annual convention of the Indiana Young Men's Christian association convened in this city at 3 p. m. today at the Methodist church, with an address by Rev. Clarence A. Barbour
of Itochester, N. Y., one of the leaders of the Men and Religion Fward movement. He spoke on "White Fields" and pointed out the unlimited opportunity still awaiting the efforts of the association. Later in the afternoon annual reports of the state executive committee were presented by Chairman Pohn C. Has well of Marion and Treasurer John F. Wallick of Indianapolis. President H. M. men from every part of Indiana were met at noon today as they returned from an excursion through the Gary steel mills and a luncheon at the Gary association building, and were taken
in automobiles to the Methodist church
to be registered and assigned to homes in Hammond for entertainment. The Y. M. C. A. secretaries and speakers are lodged at the Carleton hotel, where the state committee has Its headquarters. At noon today a band of association workers held meetings at the Conkey
and Bets plants and at the railroad car shops of Hammond. These meetings were under the direction of Dr. Peter Roberts and A. B. Mlnear, of tne international committee, Abraham Bowers of the Chicago association, and E. L. Mogge, of the Evansville asociatlon. Tonight a business men's dinner will take place at the Masonic Temple, with 400 delegates and business men of the Calumet region present. The principal address will be made by Fairfax Harrison, president of the Monon rail
road, on the subjeet: "Are We Ready for Industrial Co-operation?" Dr. Peter Roberts will discuss "Practical Work for Foreigners" and State Secretary Stacy will give an illustrated talk on Indiana's new buildings and activities. Mlshop John Hazen White, of Michigan City, and Dr. Barbour will conduct a service this evening at the Methodist church. The Saturday morning session will be devoted to the election of officers, invitations for the 1913 convention and committee reports. The afternoon will
be occupied by conferences of city, railroad and student delegates, before whom Dr. Roberts, Thomas EL Kline, engineer of the Hoosier Limited. Chas.
' D. Hurrey and Dr. Barbour are slated
to appear. Saturday evening the feature will be the boys dinner and the address before them of Dr. Edward A. Steiner, professor at Iowa college and expert on Immigration subjects. For Sunday afternoon three mass meetings are scheduled, one each for men, women and boys.
