YOUNG ASTOR IS GIVEN JSJORTONE Attained Majority Today and with It an Inheritance of $65,000,000.
(National Newi Association) NEW YORK, Nov. 15. William Vinfcent Astor, head of the American ibranch of the Astor family since the 'death of his father, John Jacob Astor, fwho went to his death on the steamer Titanic on the morning: of April 15, 11912, reached his majority today and jby virtue of this fact came into full 'control of the Astor fortune which is conservatively estimated at $65,000,000. When the estate was appraised ky experts shortly after the death of Col. John Jacob Astor, to determine the amount of inheritance tax to be paid, the aggregate value of the estate was placed at between $75,000,joOO and $80,000,000. As these figures are official and probably as nearly correct as possible under the circumstances, the amount of the fortune into the possession of which young William Vincent Astor came today, may easily be estimated. Under the terms of Col. Astor's will, WiHiam Vincent ABtor was made residuary legatee. The shares of all other heirs were fixed in plain terms by the will itself. Mrs. Madelaine Talmage Force Astor, the widow, received for life, or until remarriage the income from $5,000,000 and the use of the Fifth Avenue home of her late husband as well as $150,000 outright. Muriel Astor, a daughter, by Col. Astor's first marriage, received a trust fund of $5,000,000. A similar trust fund of $3,000,000 was provided for John Jacob Astor III., the posthumous child of Col. Astor. Other bequests aggregated nearly $500,000. Deducting these trusts and bequests from the estimated total value of the estate would place William Vincent Astor's share at Bbout $65,000,000. No Astor has ever come into the family fortune at so young an age as William Vincent Astor. His father was twentyeight before he succeeded, and his grandfather was sixty. His great-grandfather, John Jacob III., was Indianapolis Man Praises Nature's Creation GLENN H. CRANOR. Nature's Creation has gained another victory over tuberculosis in Indiana polis. Glenn H. Vranor, an advertising man, who is now enjoying good health, has given for publication the following statement: "Last fall I contracted a cold. I took treatment from a physician with out benefit. March 20th, this year I contracted additional cold which developed every symptom of tuberculo sis. I lost twenty-four pounds in thir teen days, and had night sweath, spitjtiiig of blood, chills and fever, distressing cough, could not sleep for coughing, expectorated as much as one in the last stages of tuberculosis. The .25th of March I began taking Nature's Creation. After three weeks my cough had loosened and subsided so that I expectorated easily and other symptoms steadily grew less severe. I now ,eat heartily, breathe freely, sleep restIfully and count myself cured. Should ;any symptoms return I would at once i take Nature's Creation. With sympathy for those who suffer likewise, and a desire to relieve them, I sincerely recommend Nature's Creation. Any questions will be cheerfully answered by me or my mother, Mrs. Rosa H. Cranor. Call or address 321 E. St. Clair St. Yours, with gratitude, Glenn H. Cranor, Indianapolis." (Advertisement! fifty-three, and his father, William Backhouse I., was fifty-six. William Vincent Astor was born in the old Astor homestead on Fifth Avenue and Thirty-fourth street on November 15, 1891, fime months before his grandfather died and his father became head of the house. He was so frail a baby that only unremitting care kept him alive. He lived the loneliest childhood because of this and, when other children romped in the open air.he sat over a toy piano in a nursery to which no playmates ever came. Servants saved him every exertion, nurses were always with him; physicians awaited calls to him that had precedence over all others. Six years of this unceasing attention brought Vincent Astor to a degree of health it had been thought he never could attain. Newport was astonished to see him come there five years ago and take an active part in the sports of the summer colony. It was still more astonished at his great interest in automobiling. He drove his own car with daring skill, although he was then only sixteen years of age. His father, wishing to strengthen the boy's health by keeping him out of doors as much as possible, encouraged his fondness for automobiling and yachting, but although Vincent Astor continued to retain a certain amount of interest in the sailing sport, he devoted the greater share of his interest to automobiling. As a boy of twelve or thirteen William Vincent Astor passed through severe sickness and had to undergo several surgical operations. Every year he was taken to St. Moritz or the Riviera on account of bronchial trouble. The constant care required by his delicate health retarded his education to some extent. He was sent to Eton, but soon returned because the English boys at that famous school made life a burden to the rich young American. He went through a course at St. George's, at Newport and then enttred Harvard university for a three years' course. He intended to take his bachelor's degree and then study law, but all these plans were changed through the death of his father and the change in conditions caused thereby. During his college days William Vincent Astor made an attempt to go in for athletics and was assigned a place in the freshmen crew, but soon withdrew and confined himself to a life of luxury and daring automobiling. He became noted for his speeding and repeatedly came in conflict with the speed laws. It is not surprising that William Vincent Astor is considered the greatest catch by the mothers of marriageable daughters. There have been a number of rumors of engagements of the young man to various society girls and others, but so far there seems to be no evidence that the young man has formed any attachment likely to lead to his marriage in the near future. Another great bill opened a three days engagement at the Murray yesterday and despite the unfavorable weather the house was well filled both afternoon and evening. Ada Carlton the singing comedienne presented a singing act that satisfied everybody. Lynn & Bonnie Hazzaru have evidently given much thought and study to an offering that would be pleasing yet away from the ordinary, for their musical skit is such and proved to be the right act for the right place. Fields and Hanson still retain the reputation of being among the foremost with their comedy, musical act and they were successful in keeping the audience in an uproar for 21 minutes. The Cebene troupe of five close the show with a well dressed and - all around high class novelty wire act that sent the audience home feeling that they had received double value for their money. "Funny Side of Life." "Funny Side of Life" will bid for approval at the Gennett theatre Nov. 16. It is an assured fact that this company will come up to expectations if past performances are to be relied upon. "Funny Side of Life" written and produced by that well known German comedian and producer, Richy W. Craig, is a sure cure for the blues and destroyer of unhappiness. The special music written for this show is interpolated with the most popular of the new songs. "The Spring Maid." "The Spring Maid" which will be seen at the Gennett theatre on the night of Nov. 23, is one of the few latterday operettas that deserves being ranlted with the master works of their kind which have gone before. In its setting, its music, its action and in its every part, it is eminently satisfying. Its story is a happy one; its music is aliuring and it is as far removed from that ot most modern musical plays as the genuine poem is from a magazine jingle. There is a freshness and a charm about it all that makes it thoroughly worth: while and deserving of the prosperity that

BABIES UNDER THE SPOUT.
In Simla They Water the Youngsters to Keep Them Quiet. The native mothers In the neighborhood of Simla, iu India, have a curious practice of putting their babies heads under a spout of water io order to send the youngsters to sleep and to keep them quiet. Wheu a new cart road was made some years ago in the locality mentioned there was a halting place, where rows of such children might be seen in a grove close to the road. The water of. a hill spring was so adjusted as to furnish a series of little sjwiuts each about the thickness of one's little finger. Opposite each spout was n bind of earth pillow and a little troujrli to carry away the water. Each child was so laid that one of the water spouts played on the top of its head, and the water then ran off into the trough. An Knjrlisu official testifies that the process was most successful. There never were such quiet nnd tintronblesome babies as those under the spout. The people were unanimous In asserting that the water did the children no harm, but that on the contrary. It lHnefited and invigorated them. In fart, tbey seemed to think that a child not subjected to this process must grow up soft brained and of little account.
