OREGON FOREST TO BE WELL GUARDED Finest Foresty School in the United States Founded For This Purpose. (Palladium Special.) PORTLAND, Ore.. Oct. 31. Oregon hopes to build up the finest school of forestry In the whole world, and a tract of land has been secured that will be admirable for such an Institution. ThlB land lies in a heavily timbered section on the western slopes of the Cascade mountains and are now included in a Government forest reserve. Negotiations are now going forward to have the title to the property transferred to the state In exchange for the 40,000 acres of school land scattered throughout Oregon. It is felt sure that this acreage will be traded for an equal area of Government timber land, and the supervision will be turned over to the state forestry school. ; The tract lies on the Upper Santiam river, being accessible by rail as well, as by river. The matter is being handled by Governor Oswald West in connection with Chief Forester Graves. In discussing the plan the Governor Bald: . "The tract picked out has an abundance of timber, is easy of access, has splendid mountain streams and water power and affords an ideal location for salmon and trout hatcheries. A certain percent of the matured timber will be logged off each year and the revenue so received will be shared with the common school fund of the state. There is an opportunity here to establish and maintain one of the finest forestry schools In the world. Everything one could ask for in connection with an institution of that kind Is to be found on the site. "The plan to build up such a school has been under way. for some time and It now looks as it It would succeed. It will take some time, however, for the complete transfer of title, since a special act of congress will be necessary, but this will probably be accomplished without difficulty if the transfer bears the recommendation of the Department of the Interior."

HOW TO GET RID OF BLUES. Will Power Is a 8ure Cure to Drive Thorn Away. '.' How often do you open your eyes in the morning upon a day whose outlook ; twems really too discouraging to be faced, when the whole world seems a mixture of lampblack and bluing, when your friends are viewed with a Jaundiced, eye and your family seems sadly In need of reformation, Vhen the air you breathe seems laden with microbes , and the sunlight is filtered through a cloud of woe and your thoughts about things in general are iunflt for publication? , What Is the matter with you? What Is the difference between yourself of i yesterday and yourself of today? "Oh, well," you say, "I've got the blues; that's what's the matter with me." And you assume the air of one who walks alone, shrouded In your own exclusive individuality; tin laughter of the light hearted sounds ribald in your ears, and doom and despair and canker and grief are your portion. In such a state of mind how disgusting to be to!d that your blues are only a poison generated by your emotions and highly Injurious to your tissues if you persist in them. "But how can I help being blue?" you whine. "It's n condition of the mind." "Not at all," says the scientist; "It's a condition of the body. You have eaten Imprudently, or you have missed your regular exercise, or your meals have been irregular. None of these? Then yon have been under the Influence of some emotion of anger or worry. Don't you know that a contiuued state of hatred will profoundly modify tissue and all physiological functions? Don't you know that the ptomaine generated by hatred is one of the deadliest poisons known to science and that, on the other hand, the cheerful emotions are nutritive and healthily stimulating?" To use the actual language of science, "the primary cause of the bfues may be vested in some weak or diseased organ of the body which is manufacturing ptomaines." The primary cause may be In the mind from social, domestic, financial or religious causes, but in the will alone may the cure for the blues be found. Since our bodies are under the absolute control of our wills it Is only necessary to direct the will to drive out of consciousness any disturbing emotion or conviction, and the bodily state corresponding to it ,wlll at once be driven from the body. ! . MOW TO MAKE GOOD CARAMEL TAPIOCA. Soak a cupful of tapioca in two cupfuls of milk overnight. In the morning put these Into a $ double boiler with a pint of sweet milk and cook until the 4 tapioca is tender. Take from J the fire; beat In the yolks of thre- eggs; sweeten to taste mid add half a glass of brandy. Pour into pudding dish to get $ cold. To make the caramel, brown -1j a cupful of sugar in a saucepan 4 over the fire, stirring as It i browns. When of the right color add a $ cupful of boiling rater and cook 4 to a sirup. When it is cold add the stiffened whites of three ess; beat well and long, pour 4 upon the pudding In the dish. Serve ice cold. . This is a nice Sunday dessert. $ .Prepare pudding and sauce on 4 Saturday and add the beaten j whites next day. 4
