BOUNTIFUL CROPS

SH0WNIN REPORT fCorn Exceeds all Other Cereals in Governmental ; Report for October

No More Poisonous Stomach Gas

With the harvesting of all grains 'excepting corn completed, the October

ireport of the Department o Agricul- j ture gives the most bountiful yield j ' ever raised in the United States. j i The aggregate of all grains is 5,-1

413,000,000 bushels, or 1,146,000,000 'bushels, or 26.7 per cent over the aggregate yield of 1911, and 529.000,000 jbushels, or 11 per cent above the preivious high mark of 1906.

It is the first year known when crops generally have been as near perfect as it has been possible to raise. This is the result of the favorable weather conditions at the right time, bringing the crdps along and enabling proper filling. It is also due to more care given to the selection of seed and the preparation of the ground. Big Business Forecast.

The big crops mean big business

Lfor the country generally, particular-

fly the railroads, which in the last six

weeks have moved about 161,000,000

bushels of all grain, or 49,000,000 bu-

Lshels more than last year. Good

prices have been secured and farmers

have sold more grain than in any previous year and secured fairly satis

factory prices. The railroads are short over 44,000 cars, and every available

pox car in the West and Northwest lis in use.

In North Dakota the wheat crop is 146,000,000 bushels, or double that of

last year, and Js the largest crop ever

raised by any state. The yield per

acre there averaged 18 bushels. In

'the three Northwestern states there are 266,000,000 bushels, or more than

double last year's yield, and 33,000,-

jflOO bushels in excess of the previous high record of 1909.

New records were made for every

grain, also for potatoes, hay, and flax seed. The only decreases from the

migh record are buckwheat, rice and

Ilobacco and winter wheat. The latter rwas cut short by extreme winter

rweather in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and

Michigan and is short 40,000,000 bush

els from last year.

Secretary of Agriculture Wilson in

discussing the crop report and the

great showing made by the farmers, said: ;

"The crops are the heaviest on record. The season has been favorable, but some credit is due to the wide efforts made in late years by the

'federal government tnd the states to ifhelp farmers throughout the country to get better returns from the acre." "The world has been searched for

better plants by the Department of Agriculture and its scientists have

(been creating new plants, by hybrid

ization, for the several localities. "Twenty-eight million pieces of literature have been sent out by the department in addition to the advices

Thousands of traveling men throughout this broad land are never without MI-O-NA Stomach Tablets. At the first sign of distress, this friend of the stomach is brought forth and many a man has been saved from serious attacks of indigestion by taking MI-O-NA Stomach Tablets in time. But bear in mind that MI-O-NA does more than give relief; if taken regularly as directed it will put an end to, any case of indigestion no matter how chronic. Fine's and druggists everywhere. from the state stations along these lines. "The features of the report are the enormous harvests of corn, oats and spring wheat. More than three billion bushels of corn, almost a billion and a half bushels of oats and three hundred and thirty millions of bushels of spring wheat have been grown. Average Yield Doubled. '.'Iowa with 219,780,000 bushels, Illinois with 182,726,000 bushels, Minnesota with 122,932,000 bushels and North Dakota with 96,138,000 bushels, were the principal oats producers. In each of these states the yield per acre was almost double last year's yield. As the result of the large crops and of the confidence prevailing throughout the country, the railroads have bought supplies in large and all the car equipment plants are running at their full capacity. The latter are sold ahead on their capacity for the greater part of the first six months of 1913."

The oyster is back on the bill of

fare and people are beginning to talk j longingly of "oyster on the half shell." i What about oysters? Are they j safe? Should they be eaten raw? Phy- j

sicians generally agree now that the oysters as well as the fly and the milk, are one of the chief factors' in typhoid

breeding. This then is sufficient rea-i

son why the consideration of the oyster should be the subject of a health talk. know, if he would be safe The consumer of oysters should know, if he would be safe, that the oysters he eats are from supervised oyster beds where sanitation is a constant consideration. He should know that the oysters are shipped and handled under sanitary conditions. He should know that the oyster beds from which the local oyster comes are not situated in the proximity of sewage outlets. There is. a bright side to the oyster question, however. Some states are going so far as to supervise their oyster beds so as to insure a reasonable freedom from pollution. Some places are attempting to prohibit floating and

some cities that empty sewage into oyster waters are prohibiting oyster beds within a certain distance of a sewer outfall. Oysters should, above all things, be handled by a sanitary method. And while the shipping is now done with some regard to sanitary law, it is safer to know that they come from an oyster bed which is supervised.

A pimply face will not embarass you much longer if you get a package of Dr. Edward's . Olive Tablets. The pimples will vanish after you have taken the tablets a few nights. Nothing ever cleansed the blood, the bowers and the liver like Olive Tablets. Olive Tablets are the only successful substitute for calomel they oil the bowels; there's never any sickness or pain after taking them. Olive Tablets do all that calomel

does and just as effectively, but their j action is gentle and safe instead of t severe and irritating. j No one who takes Olive Tablets is

ever cursed with a "dark brown taste," a bad breath, a dull, listless, "no good" feling, constipation, torpid liver, bad disposition or pimply face. Olive Tablets are made of pure vegetable compounds mixed with olive oil. Dr. Edmonds spent years among patients afflicted with liver and bowel complaints, and Olive Tablets are the immensely effective result. Try them. Take one nightly for a week. , Then look at yourself in the glass and see how you feel. 10c and 25c per box. The Olive Tabiet Company, Columbus, Ohio.
