TO PREVENT FIRES School Children Will Be Instructed Tomorrow.
Fire Prevention Day will be observed in the local school buildings tomorrow morning by suitable exercises. In all of the upper classes, both in the common schools, Garfield school and high school, talks will be made, either by the teachers or by prominent citizens telling of the importance of the day and the necessity of carrying out suggestions to prevent fire. Shorter lessons will be given members of the primary departments in the various city schools. Teachers in the primary rooms will impress upon the minds of the children certain things which they can remember about fire prevention. A part of Friday morning or afternoon sessions in the public schools will be decoted to programs on Columbus Day or Discovery Day. If you have young children you have perhaps noticed that disorders of the stomach are their most common ailment. To correct this you will find Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets excellent. They are easy and pleasant to take, and mild and gentle in effect. For sale by all dealers. Advertisement. The Theaters The Murray. Those who care for musical comedy will see it in tabloid variety at the Murray the first half of the week.' "The Girl From Shanley's." presented by Eddie Adair and Frank II. Webb, might put a more extended and ambitious venture of its class to the blush. While its story is a bit vague in outline, there is still a definite plot, the lyrics are tuneful and "catchy," the voices good, the girls sufficiently fair to look upon, the dancing effective and the "Girl From Shanley's" engagingly pretty. Eddie Adair is a vaudeville favorite in this city and was given a cordial reception upon his appearance, and this act is, altogether, the best thing of its sort ever seen on the local vaudeville stage. Another presentation of the eternal "Sis Hopkins" type is to be seen on the vaudeville boards this week, and be it said about the best so far presented there. Elsie Garnella as "Sunny" is extraordinarily amusing and does some capital burlesque dancing. ' Magician's tricks are always interesting whether you've seen them before or not. Del Reno no less so than his confreres, for he pulls innumerable guinea pigs, silk stockings, tin cans and other incunabula out of the man's hat, which they always borrow from the audience, to the mystification of the latter. Jimmie O'Dea does a newsboy dancing stunt that carries over with great effect and under the head of "The Waynes" a man and woman do some singing and dancing in the approved vaudeville manner. A typical vaudeville bill, in fact. E. G. W. Water Bills due October 1st. 5-10t CALLED MEETING THIS EVENING A called meeting of the citizens of the city interested in the charity work to be doue by the Associated Charities this winter will be held tonight in the Y. Approaching Baldness May? be Cheecked by Using Herpicide. The above expression is one which is used frequently in connection with hair preparations. Just exactly what is meant by it in each instance is a question. Baldness is not a disease and hence, does not permit of a cure. 1 is a result invariably to be traced to the dandruff germ and if the condition has become chronic, that is, if there is complete atrophy of the hair follicles, a "cure" is absolutely impossible. Approaching baldness, seen in falling hair, may always be checked and if the hair follicles are not atrophied the hair may be induced again to grow. which cleanses the scalp and kills the dandruff germ. The destruction of the germ does away with the accumulations of scarf skin and thus eliminates the most common enemy to beautiful hair. Soft, glossy, fluffy hair cannot grow on a scalp infested with dandruff any more than a delicate plant can grow on an ash heap. The scalp must be kept clean and free "from dandruff, The best remedy for doing this is Newbro's Herpicide which receives the highest endorsements from professional men, the stage, and the best people everywhere. Applications obtained at all firstclass barber shops and hair dressing parlors. Address the Herpicide Co., Dept. R., Detroit, Mich., enclosing 10c in postage or silver for sample and booklet. Newbro's Herpicide in 50c and $1.00 sizes is sold by all dealers who guarantee it to do all that is claimed. If you are not satisfied your money will be refunded. A. G. LUKEN & CO., Special Agent. TWO AGED FARMERS BEATEN TO DEATH Bachelor Brothers Murdered by Unknown Man Near North Vernon, Ind. (National News Association) NORTH VERNON, Ind., Oct. 8. Charles and James McQuaid, prominent and wealthy bachelor farmers living near North Vernon, Ind., were murdered early today by an unknown man, who summoned the brothers to their door ostensibly to borrow a lantern. Charles, aged 71, answered the knock at the door and informed the stranger that he had no lantern, but lighted a lamp which he intended giving to the supposed neighbor. No sooner had he opened the door than he was felled by a heavy club. His brother James, henring a call for help, rushed to the door and he too, was felled by the club wielded by the unknown assailant. An aged invalid sister, who has been ill for thirty years, also was in the building, but as she is crippled she could not leave her bed. She remained in her bed in terror ; while hearing her brothers being beat en to death, crying for mercy. While robbery is supposed to have been the object of the assailant the sister does not believe the murderer obtained any money. Bloodhounds were placed on the trail early today. The McQuaid brothers are cousins of Lieutenant Corrigan of the Indianapolis police department. The brothers lived but two hours after the attack. DRUNKEN PEDDLER QUITE UNGRATEFUL "James Martin is decidedly ungrateful." This was the conclusion reached by Special Judge R. K. Shiveley in police court this morning. Martin was drinking yesterday afternoon and was brought to the police headquarters where he was warned and told that he had better leave the city. He has only one arm and it was thought best to let him depart on his way to Pittsburg as he said that was his destination. He did not leave and proceeded to sell pencils on Main street and as fast as he got money enough, would buy liquor. When one would buy a pencil from him he would curse his customer for taking the article purchased. He was rearrested and fined one dollar and costs. He was unable to pay his fine and was sent to the county jail for eleven days. CAPITAL STOCK IS INCREASED An increase of $500,000 in the capital stock of the People's Home and Savings association has been made according to papers filed in the office of County Recorder Robbins today. The papers, which are approved by L. G. Ellingham, secretary of state, show that the motion to increase the stock from $1,000,000 to $1,500,000 was made at a meeting of the board of directors held September 24, by John J. Harrington. The officers are John F. Davenport, president; John J. Harrington, vice president; Jesse H. Brooks, secretary; John F. McCarthy, John E. Foley, John F. Cronin, Charles E. Newman and Clarence H. Kramer. CHANGE POLICIES At a recent meeting of the German Fire Insurance company of Wayne county, the policies of the company were made to correspond with the policies of the American companies. Although the policies are written in Ger man, every article insured is mentioned in the policy. now
COUNCIL DISCUSSES CODE, ANNEXATION AND STREETS
The proposed building code of Richmond, which was given a sleeping potion by the city council on June 2, 1911, when it was read and the mayor was instructed to confer with the Commercial club for the purpose of simplifying its provisions, was disturbed in its slumbers last evening by the council and made a special order of business for the next meeting. Mayor Zimmerman, attending the races at Lexington, Ky., was absent, and hence unable to explain how the building code, in his business-like administration could remain undisturb-
