REGARDED POOR RISK Insurance Companies Not After Society Women. (National New Association) CHICAGO, Sept. 6. Women in high Boclety are bad insurance risks. All other -women, especially business women, are considered good risks. That Is the dictum of the American Life Insurance convention in session here. "Women who live socalled high life have a hard time getting insurance," said President Gold. "They eat such indigestible food, and drink so many harmful beverages, that their systems soon are wrecked and they go the quick route to their grave. "Toward other women life insurance companies feel differently. Many companies are removing women from the list of undesirable risks."

i . t The Gennett. Interesting, and, indeed, fascinating, are the pictures being shown at the Geim-ett this week, depicting Alaskan life wnd that within eight hundred miles mf the pole. That pole which may or may not have been discovered by the far from

united efforts of Lieutenant Peary and the unphasable Dr. Cook. The moving picture is constantly shaking off the incubus of its originators and becoming more and more a medium of pleasure and instruction. The value of such pictures as those shown in this theatre this week is

incalculable. For they swing into the vision of the average citizen an exact replica of the life and topography of one of its little known, but not least valuable, possessions, Alaska. These pictures were prepared under the auspices of the expedition sent out by the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburg, for the purpose of securing specimens for inclusion in its exhibits and, at the suggestion of Mr. Carnegie, moving pictures were taken of the capture of the animals and the scenes among

which this was done, for the purpose of display to the general public. Striking Is the landscape in this far away territory as much so in its precipice bordered inlets as the famous fiords of Scandinavia. And effective pictorially, as well as absorbing ornitholcgically, are the views of the great birds of this region, hundreds and thousands of which breed in certain spots, the pictures showing enormous rocks covered with them, their white breasts turned toward the camera making the rock appear to be covered with their glistening plumage. Certain sea lions peculiar to Alaska are also seen sporting in the surf and the last reel, which shows the polar bear and her cub in pursuit, are dramatic in effect. The Progressives should'turn out en masses to see splendid examples of the bull moose in his native habitat and students of social life will view with interest the Eskimos, their houses set queerly on the ends of poles, their children, costumes, and their

games. The whole series is valuable from many different standpoints and should be seen by every-one, especially school children who can gain a better idea of Alaska thereby than by a course of several years in geography. E. G. W.

NO INCREASE III THE TAX LEVY Rate Remains the Same and , the County to Be Debt Free in 1916.

If you knew of the real value cf Chamberlain's Liniment for lame back, soreness of the muscles, sprains and rheumatic pains, you would never wish to be without it. For sale by all dealers.

With the idea of making Wayne county free of debt by 1916, the county council, which closed its session yesterday afternoon, cut appropriations to the minimum. The total amount of the appropriations made by that body was 1155,945.17. It was the sense of the council, board of commissioners and county

officials to curtail expenses so that by 1916 the county may be declared free !

from debt, for the first time in its history. The tax levy for the county will

remain the same. The rate of levy for j

the general fund is 30 3-20 cents on the hundred dollars taxable property; for the bond sinking fund, 6 cents; for the free' turnpike fund, 5 cents, and for the bridge fund, 4 cents. Since 1903 the rate of levy for the general fund has not been lower than 30 cents. The highest rate was in 1910 when the levy was 34 3-20 cents. Last year a reduction to 30 3-20 cents was made, this being made possible by the reappraisement of real estate in 1911. The bond fund levy has been reduced one cent per year since 1907 with

the exception of 1909. With the pres- J

rate of levy can not be reduced until 1913. The outstanding bonds are as follows: Court house bonds. 150.000, of this amount $25,000 being due December, 1912, and the remainder in December, 1913; refunding bonds, 60.000; there being 120,000 due In 1914, 1915 and 1916. By January 1. 1913. there will be $60,000 in the repair fund. This fund was originally created in 1904 for the purpose of constructing a bridge over the Whitewater river. It is likely that the bridge, when built will be erected at South L street. This fund will increase about $13,000 annually. An additional appropriation of $6,000 was made by the council, as recommended by the county auditor, to meet the expenses of the coming registration periods. Last year an appropriation of $4,000 was made to meet the expenses of the registration periods for this year. At the first

registration day $2,107.88 was expended. leavinK a balance of $1,892.12. It

is believed that with the additional appropriation there will be no need of further appropriations until the 1913 budget meeting of the council. However, this is a matter of conjecture. At the solicitation of the Commercial club, the council appropriated $500 for. the purpose of beautifying

the court house grounds. A landscape gardener is to be secured to draw plans for the beautification of the yards and the inmates of the county jail will do the work. The other appropriations were for the salary and office expenses of court

house officials and all county officials and employes and institutions. No unusually large appropriation was made.
