MILTON, IND. MILTON. Ind., Aug. 16. Mrs. Alice Cresh went to near Harrisburg yeBtcrday to visit Miss Flora Broaddus, at tho home of her uncle, Horace Caldwell for a few days. .Mrs. Edw. Wilson and Mrs. R. W. Warren spent yesterday afternoon with friends at Connersvijle. Geo. Murley was at Richmond owing 10 the illness and expected death of his brother-in-law, Grant Border. Mrs. Murley received the word that her brother had dropped dead but when she reached there, she was glad to learn that he was still living. He is very low. Mrs. Will Hutson, of near Pennvllle, was in town, yeBterday. She was enroute to Liberty to visit relatives. Mrs Nellie Woodcock, niece and aunt. Miss Virginia Neff and Mrs. Mary Noll, went toiConnersvilie, yesterday to visit Mrs.. Perry Jackson. Mr. aDd Mrs. Will Johnson attended the Hoover family reunion in Henry county yesterday. Mrs. Elliott, of New Castle, is also a guest of Miss Flora Broaddus, of near Harriaburg. The annual reunion of the Wagner family was held at Jackson's park Wednesday. There were about 100 in attendance, the weather being threatening probably keeping others away. A fine dinner was served. After dinner a program composed of music, recitations and speeches by members of the association was presented. Among these was a reading from a Richmond young lady, a duet by the Misses' Daphne Dailey and Edna Semler, solo by Orvel Dailey, and a talk by Martin Wagner, of Dayton, were prominent features. Among those from a distance in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Myer, of Pontiac, Illinois. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Allen Wagner, of Pendleton, president; Benton Wagner, of Milton, vice president; Mrs. Chaa. Dailey and son, Orvel Dailey, of Milton, secretary and assistant. , Mrs. Marie Beeson entertained at dinner Wednesday evening, Mrs. J. R. Gray and daughter, Miss Louise, of Chico, California. t Mrs. Chas. Davis has a sunflower that is eight feet high and has 38 blooms. Dan Caldwell, of near Harrisburg, has taken out a new buggy from the Milton buggy factory. Mrs. H. D. Huddleston was hostess for the Embroidery club Wednesday afternoon. A nice company of ladies were in attendance, among whom Mrs. Henry Hess was an invited guest. Nice refreshments were served. The next meeting of the club will be with Mrs. L. M. Gentle, at Richmond. Mr. '."and Mrs. R. J. Connell have as tbejr guest, Mrs. Connell's mother, Mrs A. J. 'Stephens of Covington," Ky. Mrs. , Nellie Woodcock and the Misses Bertie and Virginia Neww attended the Home Makers club picnicat the home of Howard Whitely, near Cambridge City, Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Alpheus Huddleston, of Mt. Auburn, was the guest of her sick sister,' Mrs. Mary Gray, yesterday. The latter is no better. A party from Williamsburg, composed, of Geo. Kelly, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Pitt, Mr. Blair, Mr. Duke, and Mr. Oler, were here to play Milton on the Milton croquet grounds Wednesday. The game Btood 5 to 5 for Milton. Miss Luella Lantz had a narrow escape from being drowned. She is one of a camping party with Messrs. and Mesdames Frank Williams and John Ball, as chaperones. about three miles south of town. Yesterday morning the Misses' Luella Lantz and Irene Crook were floating a log in very deep water. The log became unmanageable and Miss Lantz fell in the water. She sank the second time and was coming up for the last time when rescued. She .vas in quite a serious condition for several hours. The family physician was summoned. Mrs. Sarah Ohmit. Miss Esta Filby of Elwood, Mrs. Edward Wasson and son, and Miss. Sarah Hussey, from Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Manlove of near Bentonville formed a dinner party with Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hussey, west of Milton, a few days ago. ' Mrs. Wasson and son are still here. Mr. and. Mrs. Albert Williams, of Richmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Williams of Milton, went to Franklin yesterday to visit relatives a few days. Edw. Beeson. and aunts, Mesdames Ella Hoffman and Vene Beeson, attended the Hoover reunion in Henry county, yesterday. Miss Sarah Mehan was at Richmond one day this week. It was a little daughter, Georgia June, Instead of a little Bon of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. McConley, that recently deceased. Wednesday afternoon was formerly of this township and for some time run the Riverside flour mills. Mrs. E. B. Newman has a sunflower stalk that is nine feet tall and has 100 blooms. CAMBRIDGE CITY. Judkins and their granddaughters, the Misses Mary Louise Dennis and Martha Lou Judkins, return last evening after a few days spent with friends in Shelbyville. Fred Huddleston of the Indiana National Bank of Indianapolis, was the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Huddleston of Mt. Auburn, the first of the week. Rev. M. L. Lacey and Rev. O. A. Harrison conducted the funeral services of the late Gilbert Crossley, Tuesday afternoon. The young ladies employed in the Bartel garment factory were off duty Tuesday, and several hours Wednesday, owing to the work on the electric plant. Joe Wallack is improving his residence on West Main by fresh paint. Leo House, the young son of Mr. end Mrs. Dean House, has been having quite a serious time with swollen glands of neck and face. The picnic by the members of Sun day school class of the M. E. school taught by Mrs. J. W. "Judkins, which was to have been held Tuesday, on the lawn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Gaar, was postponed on account of the rain, until the coming week. Dame Rumor has it that a number of weddings among the younger society people of the town, will be solemnized in the autumn. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Copeland entertained a number of friends one evening this week, having as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harper, Mr. and Mrs. George Babcock, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Harvey, and their guest, Miss Margaret Plummer of Wabash, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Copeland, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheeler, and Mrs. Glenna May. Contests and music were the entertainment of the evening. Cream and cake were prettily served Mrs. Albert Weed went to Rich-1 mond Thursday to spend a few days with her aunt, Mrs. John Weisgarber. Mrs. Joseph Myers of Irvington, has been the guest of Prof. J. W. Bowden and family. Prof. L. A. Thompson and family arrived home today from Shelbyville, having visited friends at Milton en-route.- - - - ... ... . Mrs. Walter Shaffer and daughter, Mildred, of Peru, will come Sunday, for a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. E. R, Calloway. Israel Athey and Mrs. Carrie Green, of Richmond, will also spend Sunday with them. Mrs. W. F. Medsker has been quite sick this week, suffering from asthma. Mrs. Nettie Hufford spent Wednesday afternoon in Richmond. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Marson and son, were the guests of E. R. Calloway and family at dinner, Wednesday evening. Mrs. Charles Kerlin has returned from Fountain City, after a few days' spent with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benj. Gardner. While gone she attended the reunion of the New Garden school of which she was a pupil. Pretty, as well as unique, were the appointments of the table at the birthday luncheon given Tuesday by Mrs. George Calloway. The place cards were miniature maps of Florida, the home state of the honor guest. Mrs. Colson of Bradentown, while through the center "of the table ran a chain of odd shaped pebbles, indicative of the hostess' age. Five hundred was the diversion of the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Hiser of Muncie, have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Squire Cornthwaite. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hageman and daughter, Gaynelle, left this morning for a few days' outing at Winona. They will visit a brother of Mr. Hage man, Adrian Hageman, of Columbus, Ohio, then to Milford Center and Greenville, Ohio, to the Darke county fair, before their return. Mis3 Gaynelle Hageman entertained a number of friends at an indoor picnic Tuesday evening in the west part of town. The picnic supper was spread in the dining room, after partaking of which the young ladies visited the different theatoriums of the city. Returning to the home of their hostess, music and a general good time completed the evening.. The guests were the Misses Edna Myers, Mabel Straughn, Julia Gough. Hattie and Irene Toms, Mary Dillion, Elfreda Storch of this city, and the Misses Levon Parrish of Greenfield, and CorInne Satell of Vincennes.
