II National Politics Will Not Have Important Part in State Primary. (National' New Association) JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., Aug. 2. A State-wide primary will be held in Missouri next Tuesday to determine when the respective parties will put upon the November ballots for State, judicial, congressional and county offices. Five parties have filed nominations for the primary ballot. The Democrats and Republicans have full tickets, but the Socialists, Socialist LaborItes and Prohibitionists have some vacancies. Contrary to the situation existing in many States this year, national politics is not expected to play a very important part in the State campaign in Missouri. Some attempt has been made to inject the Clark-Wilson contest into the fight for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, but without much success. On the Republican side, the rivalry between the Taft and Roosevelt followers is manifesting itself in a fight for control of the State organization, but the indications are that the rank and file of the party will pay little attention to the presidential contest in making up the state ticket. The Roosevelt people are focusing their efforts on the election of county chairmen with a view to capturing control of the State committee and the State organization later on. Five aspirants are contesting for the Democratic nomination for governor. ! William S. Cowherd of Kansas City, 'former congressman and the Democratic nominee for governor four years ago, and Elliott W. Major of Bowling Green, at present attorney general are conceded to be the leaders in the race. Cowherd is generally looked upon as the favorite, since he has the backing of Senators Stone and Reed and other members of the "organization" which has long controlled the Democratic party In Missouri. The other three who seek to head the Democratic State ticket are David A. Ball of Louisiana, who claims he was counted out in Cowherd's favor in 3908; August H. Bolte of St. Louis, former lieutenant governor, and James A. Houchin, a millionaire contractor of Jefferson City. The race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination started with five entries, but within a week or two the field has been narrowed by the withdrawal of two of the candidates. Those remaining fn the running are John C. McKlnley of Unionville, former lieutenant governor; Leon W. Quick, city 'treasurer of St. Louis and Arthur P. Murphy of Rolla, a former representative In Congress.' Spirited contests are on for some of the congressional nominations. The Democrats who announced in the Ninth district when it appeared likely that Speaker Champ Clark might go from the Capitol to the White House have "since withdrawn, leaving Mr. Clark unopposed for renomination. The other representatives who will receive renomination without opposition in their own party are Lloyd of the First, Alexander of the Third, Dickinson of the Sixth, Shackleford of the Eighth, Catlin of the Eleventh, Hensley of the Thirtenth, Russell of the Fourteenth and Rubey of the Sixteenth. The gubernatorial candidates of the minor parties, each of whom will receive the nomination unopposed, will be: Socialist, William A. Ward, of St. Ixnris;' Socialist Labor, Charles Rogers of Kansas City, and Prohibition, Charles E. Stokes of Kansas City. A Touch That Didnt Fail. Alexander M. Dockery, former governor of Missouri, was at one time a member of the house of representatives and while filling the job made the acquaintance of a needy young man who formed the habit of borrowing too much money. Dockery got tired of being "touched" every few days and decided to put a stop to it. , One day he was called from the house , chamber by the borrowing friend. "Say, Dockery," came the usual request, "can you lend me twenty?" Dockery looked grieved and cast down, felt in' all of his pockets and nearly succeeded in squeezing out a tear from his left eye. "I haven't got a cent." he said in sepulchral tones. . At that moment he spied a page boy coming down the corridor -a boy who he knew was always hard up. The legislator aaw a way of making an effective escape. "I don't even know where I could borrow the money for you, Ben," he concluded. Turning quickly, he called the page. "Ray, my boy," he said kindly, "have you $20 with you?" The boy put his hand into a pocket, Dockery took a few steps toward the door, the would be borrower began to mourn. "Tea, elr," said the lad. "Here it is." Popular Magazine. STOPS SCALP ITCH Dandruff and Every Form of Scalp Disease Cured Quick by Zemo. It is simply wonderful how Zemo (goes after dandruff. MADE THEM HOP. A Story They Tell In Washington About Senator Jeff Davie. Senator Jeff Davis and a valued constituent were in the senate gallery one day during the recent session. The constituent was visiting Washington for the first time. It was a dull moment in the senate, and not one-tenth of the seats were occupied. "It looks dead down there, Jeff," said the Arkansas visitor, viewing the vacant chairs. "You keep your seat and I'll stir them up," said Senator Davis, rising. Two minutes later Mr. Davis was addressing the vice president. "I suggest that there is no quorum," said the senator quietly, so that his friend from home did not hear. Immediately the bells began to ring, the clerk to call the roll and senators TBK ROOM FIU.ED. to swarm in from the cloakrooms, the corridors and their rooms. The room filled.. Mr. Davis answered his name and returned to the side of his constituent. "See them come?" asked the senator. "All that I have to do to make them hop is to appear on the floor." Washington Cor. New York World. Logical Conclusion. An amusing incident happened some time ago in one of the Paris courts of justice. A vain, haughty woman was called as a witness, when the magistrate inquired her age. "Twenty-five last August," promptly replied the lady. The next witness was a young man. who at once acknowledged that he was twenty-seven years of age. "Are you related to the last witness?" queried the magistrate. "Yes; I'm her son." he replied. "Ah." mused the' magistrate. "Your mother must have married very young." Not Such a Crazy Answer. Two lunatics conversed in the asylum yard. One had megalomania. Said. he. "Had they not locked me up here I should have been a second Napoleon!" Thoughtfully the other contemplated a pea green devil on the asylum wall, then remarked, "The second Napoleon wasn't much shucks." Everybody's. Waiting For Mora Ammunition. Margaret, the five-year-old daughter of a very dignified lady, was very impudent the other day. and her mother shut her up in a closeL After a few minutes of silence she went to the door. "Margaret," she said, "are you ready to be good and come out?" "No. I am not ready yet," Margaret responded. "Why notw "I 'pit on your coat, and I "pit on your dress, and now I'm wailin' for more 'pit to 'pit on your hat" Kansas City Star. Kipling's Queer Behavior. At a tea the other day f woman heard the following remarks made about her favorite author. She turned to listen, amazed by the eccentricities of conduct narrated. "Yes, you know," the hostess was saying, "Kipling came, in and behaTed so strangely! At luncheon he suddenly sprang up and wouldn't let the waitress come near the table. Every time that she tried to come near he would jump at her. He made a dive for the cake that was on the lower ehelf of the sideboard and took it into the parlor to eat it. He got the crumbs all over the sofa and the beauiiful rug. When he had finished hia ake be simply sat and glared at ns." The visitor finaljr could not control herself and asked. -Excuse me, but are yeu speaking of Mr. Rudyard Kipling?" "Mr. Rudyard Kipling?" echoed the hostess. "Oh, no! Kipttnjr is our dog. BESSIE E. GILBERT Cornetist. Miss Gilbert, one of the best known women cornctists in this country, gave an exhibition of virtuosity on her instrument last night at the first performance of the "Last Days of Pompeii," which opened a three day engagement in the Athletic Park that delighted her big audience. Miss Gilbert rehearsed the Richmond City Band yesterday for their evening's repertory and her solo numbers with this excellent aggregation of local musicians were the musical features of the evening. Women, as a rule, are not successful manipulators of this brass instrument for obvious physical reasons, but Miss Gilbert is one of the few notable exceptions. Her fortissimo effects were especially noticeable for their clearness and admirably sustained climaxes and her interpretations full of harmonic nuances. Altogether Miss Gilbert's appearance is one of the successes of the presentation of this great spectacle.

DENY MERGER REPORT Robinson and Rumely Companies Have Not Consolidated.

The reports circulated today that the Robinson Machine company had consolidated with the M. Rumely company of La Porte, Ind., appears to be unfounded. S. E. Swayne, president of the Robinson company, and Frank of the GaarLand, general manager Scott line of the M. Rumely company, ; denied that there had been any at- j tempt to consolidate the two corpora- ; tion8. , Mr. Swayne stated that there has been no conference or meeting of any kind in regard to the selling or consolidating the two companies. Mr. Land of the M. Rumley company, stated that ho knew nothing of the report, j Cure For Fever Blisters. Fever Winters, or cold sores, as some call them, are very disfiguring. They may corae from euddeuly chilling the blood when heated, or they may result from digestive troubles. The best. cure, of course, is to find the trouble and remove It. Sometimes if they are i rubbed vigorously when the first symn- I toms of their coming are felt they i will disapiear. The following remedy, too. is helpful: Carbolic acid. 6lx drops: glycerin, one teaspoonful; rosewater. ten drops. Then, if a woman finds that ber lips have settled into unpleasant lines, and sometimes ihey do. a few lip gymnastics are helpful. These should not be done to such an extent as to make lines or wrinkles on the face, bet If the lips are moved about and pursed up until any fixed habits of expression that they may have formed are broken up it will add to their charm. Homemade Cold Cream. During the windy weather one requires n good, pure cold cream that can be applied in the day time without be-1 Ing noticeable, llere is an excellent recipe: Take half an ounce each of spermaceti and white wax. with two of witch hazel and three of sweet almood oil. Let the wax and spermaceti barely melt over hot water before adding tbe oil. They should only just turn liquid before being removed from the beat. Mix in the oil. then with a silver fork add the witch hazel, drop by drop. Beat to a smooth cream, adding a few drops of any preferred perfume.
