BUILDINGS ERECTED Controller Has Issued 214 Permits.

Building in Richmond is not on the wane, as is evidenced by the fact that 214 building permits have been issued so far this year, by the city controller. These permits vary from $50 to $35,000. The total valuation of the improvements to be made is given on the books of the city controller at $154,140. The improvements made this year, including new houses and additions, are scattered over all sections of the city. A large number of new houses are being erected in the east end, between North E and Main streets; in West Richmond between the National Road and Richmond avenue; and the south end south of E street. The building up of the suburbs and new additions to the city is progressing with rapidity. Beallview and Benton Heights have several new houses, and the south and east sections added to the city are being built up.

Consumption is a disease which should not be tn"ed with. If the trouble is present, don't waste time in argument. If a so-called "cold" has Ion? persisted; if a cough ie present that keeps you anxious; or any of the sy.-nptoms exist such as lever or night sweats, weakness and loss of appetite, rind perhaps, seme raisins of nnicus do the sensible thing: take Eck man's Alterative as Mr. Betters worth did. Bowling Green, Ky., R. No. 4. "Gentlemen: In 1908, I had a severe cough for six months. I tried all the medicine that my friends and doctors recommended to me, but no results came for the better. At last I tried your medicine. In one week's time there was quite an improvement in my condition, and after I had taken several bottles I felt as well as ever in my life. I will gladly write personally to any party wanting information in regard to your wonderful medicine." (Signed Affidavit) A. C. BETTERSWORTH. Eckman's Alterativev is effective in Brinchitis, Asthma, Hay Fever; Throat and Lung Troubles, and in upbuilding the system. Does not contain poisons, opiates or habit-forming drugs. For sale by A. G. NO BINDER TWINE

The Theaters

(National News Association) WINNIPEG, Man., July 26. Western Canada faces the worst famine of binder twine in its history. Prices will soar and already farmers are rushing in orders for a season's supply. "Heavy crops in the South and the increased demand in Canada is responsible for the condition. American mills will not ship to Canada on account of the stringent inspection here."

It Is a fine thing to know when to let go. Many a man holds on too long. It Is better to Jump overboard than to go down with the sinking ship.

"College Days," a version of the famous farce, "Charley's Aunt," opened a half week engagement at the Murray last night. At its best or worst this is a droll and amusing farce. Its story is too well known to go over the masquerading of a college boy as the "aunt" of "Charley," whose non-appearance in the role of chaperone caused the latter and several of his friends much embarrassment and who resorted to this makeshift to preserve the proprieties and was "put over" with success by the players at the Murray since the audience howled with glee during the continuance of the three acts. Aside from "Charley's Aunt" taken by Jack Lewis, around which the action and interest naturally centers and which was played with much farcical eclat by Mr. Lewis, the best bit

of histrionics of the evening was that j

of Mr. Wolcott, whose impersonation of an old man of a certain type was capitally done and whose surprising skill in concealing his vocal identity by the substitution of a different register was an exhibition of theatric finessee complimentary to its medium. Let the members of the embryonic Drama League, by the way, put it down on their little calendars, that the Murray people are going to put on "The Girl of the Golden West," within

the fortnight. Some of m have no doubt paid out golden ducats to see this by celebrated thespians and will have an opportunity for that first hand comparison for which they yearn. E. G. W.

Hew to Keep Cut F'ewers. Flowers always make a lovely gift and will keep fresh several days if th following precautions are taken: Dip the ends of the stems in melted paraffin wax and carefully wrap the Bowers with sheets of cotton. Line the box with waxed paper, being careful to leave plenty to fold over the flowers. Place them in the bor. cover over with the paper, wrap with several thicknesses of brown paper, and they are ready to express.

ITS TOO BAD WE CANT PLEASE 'EM ALL (National News Association) MELBOURNE. Australia. July 26. The Australian senate has unanimously adopted a resolution declaring against the United States permitting vessels flying their own flags to pass through the Panama canal toll free. The same resolution was passed by the lower branch of the legislature on July lg.
