Thursday July 4, 1912, Wayne Council, No. 10, R. & S. M., stated assembly. This Is My 87th Birthday EMILE OLLIVIER. Emile OUiver, who was .French premier during the war with Prussia In 1870, but who has been almost forgotten by people outside of France, was jborn in Marseilles, July 3, 1825. He ' became a member of the Paris bar and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1857. In 1869, M. Ollivier was Invited by the Emperor Napoleon III. to form a ministry. Less than a year later the declaration of war against Prussia, and its disastrous results, led to the overthrow of the Ollivier government. M. Ollivier deemed it prudent after the fall of the empire to retire to his estate in the south of France where he resided for a considerable time with his family, devoting his time to literary pursuits. He has been a distinguished member of the French Academy since 1S74. Of late years the former statesman has been engaged in writing an exhaustive history of France, of which seventeen volumes have already been published. A boy who had won a prise for learning Scripture verses and was greatly elated thereby was asked by a minister If It took him a long time to commit them. 4,Oh. no," aald the boy boastfully; "I can learn any verse ta the Bible in five aainur.ee." "Can you. Indeed? And will yon learn one for me?" "Tea, sir." "Then In five minutes from now I would like very much to hear yon repeat this verse," said the minister, handing him the book and pointing out the ninth Terse of the eighth chapter of Esther: "Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month that la, the month Sivan on the three and twentieth day thereof, and it was written, according to all that Mordecal commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants and the deputies and rulers of the provinces, which are from India unto Ethiopia, a hundred, twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and nnto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing and according to their language.'" The boy entered on his task with confidence, but at the end of an hour could not repeat it without a mistake and had to tearfully acknowledge himself defeated. St Louis Globe-Democrat

On one occasion Mr. Graham wrote a letter for publication to one of the newspapers. When printed the letter exhibited some marked divergences from the original. Mr. Graham was moved to remonstrance. The editor published the remonstrance in a subsequent issue and with it-the following comment: "If in future Mr. Graham will sit In a chair when writing and not on horseback and use a pen instead of the candle snuffers we think we may be able to do him justice." Their Own Choice.
Wilson and Marshall are the nominees of the Democratic convention. Wilson is a known progressive, his record in the state of New Jersey is progressive, his speeches have been progressive. Marshall is known to the people of Indiana as a governor, he is not known as a progressive, he is pleasant and "a Democrat of the old school." But the nomination of neither one of these men knocks out the influence of Ryan and Belmont and Murphy in that party. It does not change the situation in this state. It does not make it any easier to fight through bills in the next legislature for progressive principles. Because Wilson, a progressive, has won the nomination only increases the probability that Democratic reactionaries will go into office by the old system of voting for a Democrat because of disgust for the corrupt reactionaries in the Republican party. We regard the nomination of Wilson as forced on an unwilling reactionary convention because of Theodore Roosevelt's fight in Chicago. In the Republican party the progressives have not only exposed the corruption existing in their own party but have won the victory for the progressives in the Democratic party. It by no means follows that because Wilson is nominated that it is therefore the duty of the progressives of this country to come to his support. More people in the United States have signified their belief in another progressive than Wilson. The man is Theodore Roosevelt. On the eve of Wilson's victory in Richmond the unmistakable evidence of the mass meeting was that the people were glad that right had triumphed but that Wilson was not their choice. Their position was that Taft was not the nominee, that the Republican managers had forfeited all claims upon their allegiance but that what they wished was a choice between the progressives their own choice and not one put upon them by chance.
Why it is Neccessary.
The mass meeting last night went on record for a third party a progressive party. There are solid reasons for this. The reason, first of all, it needs the combined support of all progressives to overthrow the Taggart and Kearling machinery in this state in order to construct progressive legislation. But unless we are to give up the will of the people all over the country the two million votes for Theodore Roosevelt, expressed at the primaries his followers are helpless in this state unless a third party is formed. The reason is that in Indiana, according to the state laws, Roosevelt or any other man selected by the progressives can not go on the ballot unless he comes as the nominee of a party. Those who wish their own choice of progressives, rather than one forced on them by the consequence of their fight to obtain their choice, will be forced, under the state law, to form a third party. This, Is not the. case in those states where the progressives have obtained progressive laws. In Ohio those who want to have the chance to vote for Theodore Roosevelt can have his name put on the ballot and there is no necessity for a third party. In Kansas the Republican party will probably not recognize Taft, and the Taft people must put up their own electors. Since practically every other state in the Union will have the chance to vote for Theodore Roosevelt, it seems only fair that the people shall have their choice between Roosevelt and Wilson in this state. (Taft can be disregarded he will only get the vote of the rotten borroughs and there are, fortunately, not many in Indiana.) The movement which is spreading today from Richmond to Indianapolis, will undoubtedly give the people the same opportunity that the people have in other states. Butwhat the progressives In other states are able to do without forming a third party, this state will have to do by the longest way around. However, Theodore Roosevelt has been known to win against Kealing, Fairbanks, and the Republican machine in this states and beat the Democrats, too when men could go to the polls and vote for him.
The Way to Fight is to Fight. . Summed up, the gist of the progressive mass meeting last night resolved itself into the historic words of Governor Johnson, of California: "The way to fight is to fight." Garfield's opening statement about the result of the Democratic convention is the opinion of all progressives. "No progressive victory can hurt the cause of progressives." Gates, the fighting citizen from California, gave a review of the work in California, connecting the relation between the progressive legislation in states with the scandalous usurpation of the governing power at the Chicago convention. "Give me a chance to nominate your men and I will govern you. The Chicago convention took into the hands of a few men the right to nominate, and so to govern. It calls on you to say that a stolen delegate from Texas, Alabama, or Arizona, is equal to the two million majority by which Theodore Roosevelt obtained the lawful nomination in those states wehe the Republican party exists."
And so hundreds of citizens of Richmond learned the full iniquity of the Chicago convention. They saw that if that convention were not repudiated that all laws which have obtained after bitter struggles in all the progressive states are nullified. And the resolution which these men passed called upon the leaders of the progressive cause to take up the fight and to go to the end with it. The adopted the slogan of California and acted on it at that meeting: "The way to fight is to fight" and then keep on fighting.

"When the wrapper is removed the same signature appears on both sides of the bottle in red. Parents who have used Castoria for their little ones in the past years need no warning against counterfeits and imitations, but our present duty is to call the attention of the younger generation to the great danger of introducing into their families spurious medicines. It is to bo regretted that there are people who are now engaged in the nefarious business of putting; up and selling all sorts of substitutes, or what should more properlv bo termed counterfeits, for medicinal preparations not only for adults, but worse yet, for children's medicines. It therefore devolves on the mother to scrutinize closelv what she gives her child. Adults can do
that for themselves, but the child has the mother's watchfulness. Genuine Castoria always bears the

CONSULT YOUR WirE. If you contemplate some important step in business without consulting your wife Don't! Her woman's insight is likely to be worth as much as your deliberate rea soning. Some one says: "When a man has toiled step by step up a flight of stairs to the top of some accomplishment he will be sure to find a woman, though she may not be able to tell how she got there." A man roaches bis conclusion by the slow steps of deliberate logic. Instinctively a woruaq reaches it by a single bound. Especially is the average woman quick to see the risrbt nnd wrong of a proposition. .Inmpinjr over subtle distinctions and evasive phrasing, she lands at onoe on the sure ground of eternal righttioss. Ethically woman Is a seer. Most of all, clear and wide are the eyes of a wife in a matter involving the good name of her family. When in doubt consult your wife. A wife's Judgment is usually good in business matters. With her keen insight into hnnian nature she often will be able to tell you whether or not you may trust a man. Give your honor into her keepiug. There was Victoria Colonna. one of the strong women of history, ner husband was a loynl friend of the great Charles V. At one time Colonna was offered the crown of Naples if he would join the league ngninst Charles. Though strongly tempted, he asked his wife's advice. She bade him reject the offer. Not every woman would refuse to be queen. But most wives would! Because the project meant base betrayal and treachery, and the heart of a true woman Is turned against such baseness. Even from a prudential point of view the advice of Colonna's wife was good. To be promised a thing is not always to get it. Make your wife your partner. She is your best friend, the most vitally concerned in your outcome. She is your most competent and honest counselor. If she is a normal woman she will keep your feet out of the mire of wrongdoing. Take no important step without a conference with her. She will be glad and proud to have your confidence and may be able to suggest ways and means of accomplishment. "Two heads are better than one," especially if one Is a woman's head.

YOUNG WRITER ARRIVES IN NEW YORK
(National News Association) NEW YORK. July 3 Luisa Capetillo, a young writer belonging to one of the most prominent families in Porto Rico, and called by many of the progressive women of the island, the "Porto Rican Jeanne D'Arc." arrived in this city recently with the avowed declaration that she was going to awaken New York to a real sense of freedom in rt litics, dress and matrimony. And apparently she has started. Suddenly she appeared on Fifth avenue in a trouserette costume of the sensational sort guaranteed to stop traffic on any thoroughfare, and which she is trying to have the local suffragettes adopt as their political dress and symbol of emancipation. A Pertinent Question. Speaking of common sense. Dr. Faulkner, head of the Vlneland (N.
