(National News Association) EAST LAS VAGAS, May 28. With four sparring partners to keep him busy, heavyweight champion Jack Johnson today began active training for his approaching championship fight with Jim Flynn. Johnson arrived Sunday night from Chicago, where he has been doing preliminary work.' His headquarters are at the Forsyth ranch, 8 miles north of Las Vagas. Johnson's sparring partners are Marty Cutler. John Perkins, Jack Delray and Burns. Johnson's trainer, Tom Flanagan, will not arrive until the end of the week. Johnson looks fit, although a trifle heavy, and is confident that he will win. Tommy Ryan, Flynn's trainer, arrived almost simultaneously with Johnson and has mapped out a program for the Colorado scrapper which will keep him hard at work until the eve of the battle on the 4th of July. Flynn says he will take off 25 pounds before the fight. He is already down to 220. City Statistics Deaths and Funerals. DWYER Dennis D.ywer, aged eighty years, died Monday at the Reid Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock from the St. Mary's church. Burial in St. Mary's cemetery. The services will be in charge of the Rev. Father Cronin. The body was taken to the home of his neice, Mrs. Michael Meagan, 406 South Ninth street. Friends may call any time.

BUSINESS COLLEGE CONVENTION HERE Program for the Event Announced. A Banquet for the Delegates. The tentative program for the annual state convention of the Indiana Business College association, which is to be held in this city May 31 and June 1, has been announced. The convention will open Friday afternoon and a number of subjects touching upon the work done by the colleges will be taken up and discussed at length. L. B. Campbell, of this city, president of the association, will open the meeting Friday. Friday evening a banquet will be served at the gymnasium at the Young Men's Christian association building. J. D. Brunner will act in the capacity of toastmaster. The speakers for the banquet will be Charles W. Jordan, A. O. Reser of Lafayette and Charles C. Cring of Indianapolis. Saturday morning, W. S. Ireland and J. M. Bown, president and treasurer, respectively of the Universal Stenotype company, of Owensboro, Ky., with a corps of assistants, will demonstrate the value of their invention. SHAMROCKS ARE TO BE HERE THURSDAY Thursday afternoon the Richmond K. I. O. team will play the fast Cincinnati Shamrocks at Athletic park. The Shamrocks recently defeated the Wiedman's of Cincinnati for the independent championship of that city, and are classed as one of the fastest independent teams on the road. They play at Cincinnati when the Reds play elsewhere. Braxton's braves are getting on their war paint, and will try to trim the second-rate Reds. Betts, our new no-hit pitcher, will be given & rest, and Johnston will twirl for the locals. Stupp, the heavy hitting little shortstop, will be back in the game. The game will be called at 3:00 o'clock. Sunday Richmond will play at Middletown. A carload of rooters will accompany the team.

The Kentucky Indiana-Tennessee baseball league, popularly known as the "Kitty" league, opened its season today with President Bassett and the several club owners optimistic over the outlook. The circuit of the organization is the same as last year, with the exception that Evansvllle has the franchise formerly held by Fulton. For the Initial games Hopkinsville appeared at Clarksville. Paducah at Cairo and Evansville at Henderson. The season will close Labor day. BRONSON VS. MeFARLAND. INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., May 28. Hoosier fight fans are looking forward with eager anticipation to the fight to be staged here tomorrow night between Packey McFarland of Chicago and Ray Bronson. the local fighter. It will be a ten-round affair and will take place in a special-built arena at the Indianapolis baseball park. The city is now crowded with sport enthusiasts, who have been attracted by the big automobile race of next Thursday, and the promotors of the fight expect to have at least 15.000 spectators, at the ringside. Both Bronson and McFarland finished training today and are reported in the pink of condition for the go. It will be their second meeting in the ring.
