J. S. Krsge of Detroit, head of the f'g6 Five and Ten-Cent Store combination which bears his name, has purchased the building now occupied by the Central Hotel, 823 and 825 Main street, and will within the near future
tear down the building and erect another. Mr. Kreage purchased the building from William T. Turner of Kokomo, formerly of this city, who recently purchased it from Mrs. Hanna Swift of this city. It is said that Kresge paid $30,000 for the property. Turner purchased the property last June for a consideration of about $25,000. The Kresge combination is said to ,be aa large as the S. 11. Knox company, which has had a five and ten cent store in this city for several years. The former company has more tthan sixty-five stores in various cities throughout the east and middle west. The deal was consummated the latter part of last week and was announced today. The building has a frontage of thirty-six and one-half feet and a depth of one hundred and sixty-five feet. It is understood that the Kresge company will erect a three or four story building, and that it will lease the upper floors to other concerns or for office rooms.

MILWAUKEE, May 14. George Martin, sentenced to spend a year in the prison at Waupun, is grieving today because it isn't two. Martin pleaded with the judge to double the sentence, but the judge was hardhearted and refused. "I've done wrong," said Marten tearfully. "I want to suffer. I want to get out of Milwaukee and never come back again. I think I ought to be allowed to spend at least two years in prison. I don't want to go to the House of Correction.
