Conquered a Crocodile. An old traveler tells a tale of a young African girl with great bravery and presence of mind. While fetching water from a river she was seized by the Jaws of a crocodile and pulled in. As quick as a flash she remembered the weak point of a crocodile and forced her fingers Info the brute's eyes until it let go. She lost her left band, but was able to swim ashore and save her life.
Sun or Hat as Maker of Baldness, The fact that savages almost always possess One crops of hair, taken with lue fact that they do not wear hats, ha led some people to believe that going bareheaded might be a preventive (if baldness. But Dr. Gottbell in an article quoted by the Medical Record points out that the action of the sun's rays upon the head Is injurious not only to the hair, but to the whole system, overindulgence in sun baths causing irritability and nervous cardiac nnd circulating disturbances and lesions of the skin that are of ten serious. But It is pointed out that the tight lmtband constricts circulation in the arteries asd veins of the head. and. as the Medical Record says, it is a moot point whether this be not.;ns harmful to the hair as are the actinic rays of the sun.

Then we have "stomatodactylomaniacs." who put the finger Into the mouth: "onychophagomanlacs," who bite their nails: "hartnoniomanlacs," who drum with their fingers on wlndowpanes or tables, and "trepodomnnlacs." who nervously move their legs.
