METHOD OF COOLING ASHES Sprinkling Device Invented by New : York Man Enables User to Kill j Fire Also Good Protector. ! A sprinkling-device has been Invented by a New York man that enables the user to put out the fire In the redhot ashes he rakes down and sift them it once. An upright standard with a horizontal arm Is fastened to a base on the floor in front of the heater. This holds an L shaped pipe which has a reservoir for water at the top and a sprinkler at the other end and which moves about so that the sprinkler at the other end and which moves about so that the sprinkler can be inSprinkler for Ashes. feerted in the door of the ash pit or can be swung around out of the way. A stop cock regulates the flow of waiter from the reservoir to the sprinkler. It often happens that the man who tends the furnace wants to sift the ashes and recover the good coal at the same time that he rakes the fire down and builds it up fresh. When the ashes are redhot this is an unpleasant, if not practically impossible, operation. The sprinkling device here shown overcomes this difficulty and also acts as an efficient protection "from fires resulting from the removal of too hot ashes. SAW HANDLE IS REMOVABLE Saves Carpenter Trouble of Carrying Bulky Tools Can Be Attached to Many Blades. Heretofore to be equipped for any sort of work that would turn up a carpenter had to carry at least three or four saws in his kit, and saws take up room. Now a New York man has devised a removable saw handle, so that all the carpenter need take along Is a variety of blades, which can be Saw Handle Removed. ,' stowed away in the bottom of the box (and not noticed. Each blade is made 'with a slot In the end that slides into jtbe slot in the handle. There is a locking device in the handle which "holds the blade as firmly in place as If 'St were there to stay. The convenience of this arrangement ,can readily be understood, even by those who are snot familiar with tools, and to the 'carpenter himself it is a godsend. New Tuberculosis Remedy Based on Medicine ,To say that a specific exists for ths cure of Consumption is perhaps too strong: a statement, but In Eckman's Alterative we have a medicine that has been the means of savins many a life to years of uaefullneas. and in permanently curing- a large number of Consumptives. Certainly a person afflicted with a wasting- disease should be well fed with wholesome, nourishing- food, but frequently raw eggs in quantities cause a digestive breakdown, and then no food nourishes. As for milk, a very good food for many, but a producer of biliousness for some. Any diet that keeps a Consumptive wll nourished is the right one. but what is going to cure the patient? Eckman's Alterative has cured and Is curing many a case of Consumption. Let those speak who know. Here is a specimen : 90 Savannah St.. Rochester, N. T. "Gentlemen : On June 3, 1907, I was operated upon for Tubercular peritonitis, at St. Mary's Hospital. Rochester, N. Y. After the operation my physician gave me up as hopeless. I began to improve and steadily gained in health and strength. 1 now weight 115 lbs., and am absolutely cured. Believing I owe It to myself and others I make this statement." How Build Today To Replace the Worn-out Parts of Yesterday? Each day thinkers use up cells of the Brain. Each day active workers destroy cells in the nerve centres. If the food lacks the things Nature demands for rebuilding, Nervous Prostration and Brain-fag result. Suppose a bricklayer tried to build a wall and the boss furnished brick, sand and water, but left out the lime? Suppose you eat plenty of albumin and take sufficient water, but neglect food which contains Phosphate of Potash? Nature cannot rebuild gray matter in nerve centres and brain without Phosphate of Potash which binds together albumin and water to make it. Phosphate of Potash, as grown in the grains by Nature, is more than half the mineral salts in Grape-Nuts. "There's a Reason" for

In many cities, public offices were closed and business largely suspended. CHARACTER BUILDING. Your character k like the Brooklyn bridge. It is made of the tiniest strands twisted together. What are the strands? Thoughts, feelings, choices. These bring forth actions. Actions, repeated, form habits. Habits make the cables of character, and on these hang the issues of life. In infancy you have no character. You h ave inherited tendencies, but no character. Character each soul builds by its own conduct You are now building a superstructure more lasting than the Brooklyn bridge. D. C Knowlea. mmmm
